Detailing Forums and Page Ranks

So lately I have been doing a lot of SEO (Search Engine Optimization - don't ask... it's a Google thing) on some of my sites. I started a web directory to help the page ranks of some of my sites and started adding some of the other sites I frequent.

Check this out... go Meguiarsonline!! Top of the food chain when it comes to detailing forums. MOL ranks PR5 which is better than any other detailing forum... unless I am missing one.

How are the numbers crunched for page ranking?

Is this something you do are is this data drawn from another source like Alexa?

Page Rank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. (Taken from Wikipedia - link).

The PHP script I used for this Web Directory just displays this because Google stores it for every indexed domain.

The algorithm is VERY complex and proprietary with Google Labs. No one knows exactly how it is calculated with Google but most good SEO experts have a 95%+ understanding of how it works and what helps it.

From what I understand, it is heavily based on link backs and the quality of the source of the links. Fascinating stuff!

That's the answer! Google. There's a number of different page ranking services/software available and I just wanted to confirm which one you were using.

All that matters is were #1. The computations are over my head. Since I am not a google engineer not surprising. Still its good to be #1.
