He needs to join a Mitsubishi 3000 GT "Discussion Forum".

Discussion forums are great resources to locate hard to find parts for specialty cars like this.

We'll ask GT Tony to chime in...

        Re: Mitsubishi 3000GT-GTO parts??

Glad to be of help. First things first. There is a recall on the transfer cases by Mitsubishi. So you should call your local Mitsu dealer and give them the VIN # to se if it has been serviced for the recall. If not, the owner can have the car fixed at no charge by any authorized dealer. If the VIN number shows to be already serviced for the recall, then the dealer will not do anything for you. The problem was a slow leak due to an inadequate seal on the drain plug. The transfer case would get low on fluid and run too hot, and then even seize up on some cars. The transfer case only holds a small amount of fluid to start with, so even a slow leak can have catastrophic results.

If the dealer recall issue is not going to work for you, there are a couple of specialty shops for the 3000GT's in the area. The first one listed below are a couple of friends of mine that run a shop in Laverne. Ask for Eric or Ian. Eric is a member of our club. Tell them that Tony (SOB) sent you. (Eric is getting married this weekend so it might be a bad time to reach him or Ian.)

The second one listed is a guy that was a long time Mitsu tech that went independant. He is considered a 3000GT God by some.

Another alternative is what Mike recommended. Get on a 3000GT forum and check the classified section. You may have to create an account first before you will be granted access. But it's quick and easy. The best one in socal is the club I belong to. It's www.socal3s.com and it is one of the best and largest 3S sites in the country. So you are in luck. Just register and go to the classified section. There is always someone parting out a car somewhere. I'm sure you can find a used one if that is what you are wanting. Just make sure to change the fluid in it and install a crush washer on the drain plug to prevent any leakage. There are also several people that can walk you through the process of replacing it, or answer any of your questions. It's a good site with a lot of good helpful people. You won't get flamed for asking a noob question like some other sites. Another national site is www.3si.org. They also have a large group and many car parts for sale in the classified section. But most of those members are all over the country and the part would have to be shipped to you. If you prefer to pick one up locally, try our site, www.socal3s.com.

You can communicate with me better on the socal3s.com site since I am on there more often. My screen name on there is "son of a bishi". Contact me if you have any questions.
