  • Is this why newbies burn out...or is it me?

I got up this morning and decided to take a MF towel and a bucket of warm water and wipe down the interior vinyl in the left rear luggage area of my '88 Civic hatchback. ... To practice doing an extra good job on an extra small area.

I really focused on getting every last bit of loose crud off the vinyl. Then I noticed how much better it looked than the vinyl armrest in the left rear seat, and so I continued rinsing and wiping up the left side of the interior and up the windshield pillar until I got to the rear view mirror and realized what I had done. A trail of clean vinyl like a slug with ADD.

So I got out of the car and looked down at the dirty MF and it seemed it could hold some more crud if I kept rinsing and so I decided to wipe down the front left wheel to see how well it got the break dust off. Just for practice.

I was going to do just one wheel. But, afterward, it stuck out like a sore thumb and what if someone walked around the car and saw the difference? So I wiped down all the wheels.

So I was about to throw away the MF and remembered something about wiping down the engine a little at time .... Then I noticed all the leaves under the hood up by the wipers, so I got my vacuum out......

This was the first thing that caught my eye. I thought the thread was headed in a totally different direction!

    Detailing is a disease.

I do the same thing. If I dont have time to do a full detail on my truck I do some random stuff. Keeps me entertained!
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

Its a very bad disease at that!

Since Im off on summer break from college, if I put my Jeep in the garage Ill spend a entire week detailing every little piece there is on it. It gets out of hand FAST.

This sounds like perfectly normal, totally rational behavior to us. The people who need real help are the ones who can look at a messy interior, swirled paint or a grimy engine and just shrug it off is if it were normal.

I'm the same way and no matter how much i work on a car i never feel finished. If I'm bored it can go from a little interior wipe down to a complete wash, clay, clean, polish, wax and then maybe a little experimenting in there to. Welcome to the club, i dub the car crazy
