Where did the MOL Monthly drawing go ?

What ever happened to the MOL Monthly drawing for registered MOL members? I don't know about y'all but I would like to see it make a come back so what do y’all think?

We killed it off because too many people were joining under false accounts and replying multiple times in an effort to win free stuff.

Just another example of a handful of people ruining something for nothing.

By the way, we did send multiple e-mails to the last guy that tried this, he created 4 different accounts and he never replied once to our inquiries about his shenanigans.

We may do something in the future but we'll have to figure out how to bullet-proof the system first. We could just make it for anyone with over a certain post count, like 50 'substantial' posts because most of the scammers were pretty easy to spot as they were just joining and ONLY posting the contest threads.

Kind of like someone playing the lottery, not really joining the forum to either learn more or share what they know with others.

I like the "50 'substantial' posts" idea. You could add another 'requirement' such as the people who receive your newsletter, since the newsletter required us to verify our e-mail address. I don't know, just talking out loud.

Oh the irony, I don't even have 50 posts!

We're very welcome to new ideas as to how to structure he monthly prize drawing, so if anyone has an idea then please feel encouraged to post it to this thread.

Maybe something requiring verification multiple times...like e-mail verification which then links to a image verification before you can even submit your name for the drawing. Might be a lot of work...but I don't think the spammers would go through that much effort.

I also like the 50 posts thing, but maybe a little less because some people just don't post that often.

I dont have 50, but I think that's a good idea. I'm not one that posts often, because, well, compared to the majority of folks here, I just dont know that much. But I've learned so much since being here.

I was thinking more like 100 posts or so. Takes longer to get there and less chance of someone posting a lot of spam.

Not sure about 50 posts since people like Mr Stang dont post alot. Maybe something like 10 posts and they must of been a member a certain amount of time. Surely after 10 posts and being a member an X amount of time would be enough to find a spammer.

I like all the ideas so far and maybe some requirements as to what those 10 post are, just thinking that someone can get 10 post pretty easy buy just creating an account and welcoming people to MOL or maybe you have to qualify month to month. So even if you have 10 post you cant just log on once a month after that to get in on the drawing you at least have to be apart of the forum for that month but i can also see how that could go bad with people that have been a part of this forum for a long time but just don't post that often so maybe a waiver for some of those members. Who knows just thinking out loud

I think the requirement should be 50 posts plus one year's membership.

I entered the contest every month while it was on (14 months I think) and got quite discouraged seeing people with 1 post winning prizes. Not fair on the rest of us.

*EDIT* I just noticed Derrick has only been with us for two months, yet he has made many many valuable posts here. So I think there should be some discretion shown for members like him.
