Strange polishing method???

I just pass from a professional car painter and he was trying to polish a car.i saw a wet car(really wet with water on it),polish just putted all over the car(not applied he just placed the polish on the entire car),and he was working by a rotary polisher.the pad was in a really bad condition (it lost it shape and some pieces of it were missing),he didn't even tried to hold the pad flat on the paint and he was spraying more water every time that move on the next area...Who correct is this polishing method??For me it was so strange that i didn't knew if i had to cry or laugh...i was to shy to take some photos or even a video just to him.....

Im not sure he should work on a wet car. I say too much water is gonna compromise the results of the polish and wont do the pad much good either

The funny thing is that I remember watching an episode of "American Hot Rod" and I saw a guy in the body shop polishing with a rotary and water dripping everywhere! Looked like the wool pad was soaked it was definitely a compound in it.

Can any pros shed the light here?

someone told me that those polish/compounds(farecla) are working good with water.someone else told it is just to keep cool the paint and not burn it.One moment he said that there where some scratches that he couldn't remove and all this after one quick pass!!!!!(1 minute the entire hood)!!!!!!!!!The funny thing is that i removed similar and heavier scratches by DA polisher in the past....And unfortunately they call their self professional and people pay them to destroy their paint(i had a very bad experience on my brand new car when Honda decided to polish it before deliver it to me..the results where awful...a brand new black Honda accord full of holograms

I would imagine there would be more product on the walls, floor, himself, and everything else close by than there is on the car.

water+polish+rotary can = big mess!

It seems to me that he might be using a compound that is dusting really bad. To counter this problem, he is adding water to keep it from drying and then dusting.

He was using a Farecla but not sure which one..The strange is that
1.He was using the rotary like a grinder(i never saw the pad flat on the paint,but he was using it like he wanted to rounded something)
2.Without any lights how he was able to see if he removed the scratches?
3.He was working for 5 minutes(time i was there) and he 'finished' the hood,the half top and the driver's side (both doors and rear fender)That was really quick..
