I didn't know that, thanks for the tip! Thanks for all the good information. I'll have to do some more reading on the kj forums instead of just looking at pictures.

They said the crank sensor was seized and they had to drill it out. Not sure it that's true or not.

Things aren't any better today. It died on the way to work this morning and I had to have it towed. They spent all morning trying to figure out what was wrong with no luck. I had to rent a car to get to work. They said hopefully this afternoon they will know what's wrong with it and have it fixed by tomorrow.

      Re: Scheduled Maintenance?

Do you know what codes its throwing scott? Does it just die and not start back at all?

How many miles are on the Jeep? Remember that it has a 7yr/70k powertrain warranty with a $100 deductible. Im not sure if the crank sensor is included in that though.

        Re: Scheduled Maintenance?

I picked it up yesterday at noon and haven't had any problems since. So I hope it is fine now. The total ended up being a bit over $600.

The code was P0320 and I have 52k miles. I checked online and found it was a crank sensor. However the writeup stated that most of the time on 2001-2003 Jeeps it really is the cam sensor that is the problem. The first day it died and wouldn't start but after 30 mins it started and I drove to the dealer. The second day I could only drive for 50 ft at a time.

So the first day they replaced the crank sensor. The next day they replaced the cam sensor. When they were trying to start it they fouled out some plugs so I had to do those too. Then the crank sensor went bad again so they put another new one in for no charge. It runs different but they said the plugs where really bad so I hoping it just that I'm not used to it running good. They where the original plugs and I was going to replace them anyway with some help from that great writeup.

I am waiting till next week to make sure I don't have any more problems over the weekend. Then I am going to go in and meet with the service manager or write a letter. My Jeep was certified used. I told them that the first time I called. I asked who to call for a tow and they gave me a local number. Also I had to pay for my own rental car when they had it over night. I did some looking and my tow and rental car should have been covered under the certified warranty. There is a special number you need to call for the tow but they gave me the local place. Also they said they checked and the sensor is not part of the power train coverage. So I at least want the rental and tow paid for.

Hey Scott, glad you got it running again. Hope this is the end of the problems. Good luck on the reimbursement end of the deal. I think they should pay for the tow and rental. Keep us posted. Good luck this weekend.

Yea, cam sensors are 'kinda' common. Weve replaced one on our 94 grand but I hardly read about those going bad on the liberty forums. Hopefully that was it.

And it starting after it cools down does sound like a crank or cam sensor.

Thanks! I sure hope nothing else goes wrong for awhile.

Edit: Sorry I guess I should have called this "My Rant Thread"

They fouled your plugs and charged you to change them?

Yep. I asked them about that too. They didn't seem to care much.

Just a word of caution about the displaying the trouble code via the key. This methood will flash out a two digit code, not as specific as the OBDII code format. Can put you in the right area, but not the specific failure.

I know on the PT Cruiser and other Mopars the "key dance" will return the full 5 digit alpha-numeric code, ie it will return the entire P0420 which is the code for Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

And thanks to those who priveded the trans flush info - very interesting.

Have you talked to the service manager? If not, it sounds like it is time to start working your way up the chain.

What does it say on your service report?
