  • So I'm coming home from the paint store..

    Hey All.

So I am coming home from the paint store today.... I hate painting but it needs to be done. Anyway....As I turn into my driveway on the way to my house, I see this guy doing some kind of paint work to his car. He didn't speak English very well so there was a little bit of a language barrier. He had a Honda that he was working on and from my trained eye, I thought it was primer that he was wet sanding However, being the curious car guy that I am I couldn't help but stop and ask what the heck he was doing to it. Turns out it wasn't primer at all, it was some kind of compound. He had it on so thick that it just looked like the black paint was primer. HE HAD THE WHOLE CAR COVERED! He said it was something to remove the scratches and seemed fairly perturbed that I asked what he was doing. And...he was doing this work in the sun!
Anybody got any ideas as to what he was doing? Man, I wish I could have taken pictures.

    Andy

Perhaps he had heard of claying the car and wanted to try it out, but didn't read up on it first?

This was a black Honda Civic, although I couldn't tell. The thing was totally white with this dried on wax or compound. Whatever it was. I can't wait to see it tomorrow. He might just still be out there trying to get the stuff off.

..i know this may sound off... but could it have been baking soda? I was told one time that rubbing baking soda on your paint would do swirl removal (i know it isnt true) but maybe he heard that too.

                  Hey all,

Not really sure how it ended up. I was painting all day yesterday and it was very damp outside . It rained in the morning so I hope he got all the stuff of his car....Whatever he was doing. I look for it later today and let you know.

I don't really think the guy lives around here. Normally I would have helped him. He kind of seemed upset that I asked him what he was doing. If he would have asked I would have helped him out. Without question.
