  • Reverse Osmosis Filter Questions... need help!

OK, so here is the deal... seems I am in need of a Reverse Osmosis Filter system of some sort. Now I am not looking to spend all that much... This will not be used as a 'whole house filter' rather something mounted in the garage where I can go out and get water when needed for supplying my saltwater tank. Also, would this benefit my car wash water as well?

Any suggestions/ideas and/or help would be great!

RO or DI water is one of the best water for salwater tank especially if you keep some corals. Also this water would be somewhat benefit for car wash and should use only at the last step to rise the car before wipe the car dry. Using only RO or DI water to do entire car wash process is a waste of money IMO.
A RO system with 20 to 50gpd is not that expensive. I don't know the current market price since I'm not into reef keeping anymore, but should be around $200-300.

Well, the average residential RO system makes around 30gpd, so you're looking for something quite a bit more.

Now just installing an RO filter that's going to be fed from straight tap water won't last long at all. It's recommended that you have a conditioner/softener at your home to take out those calcium and magnesium (and others) ions first, then to a small RO system under your sink for extra purification for drinking water.

These systems are pricey but do pay themselves off over time. There's a ton of ways that soft water will benefit your wallet from better suds (less soap needed) in your washing machine to extending home water pipe's life.
