  • Plasma Light Bulb

Here's some new technology that would really revolutionize night driving:

This would be a fantastic option instead of Xenon headlights.

...I still can't get over the fact that it uses plasma...

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Swirl finder light applications for that bulb would be incredible.

That's pretty cool. I'm wondering how many hours that bulb will last? Thanks for sharing!

I have 2 headlights 2 fogs and 6 long range lamps on my truck. I would LOVE to have these bulbs in them! Instant stadium lights.

At least one of their releases mentions a 20,000 hour lifetime but they do say lifetime varies by application.

                      Definitely a nifty new technology.

Using plasma for lighting isn’t new but the way they do it looks pretty innovative.

Plasma and incandescent illumination had both been invented even before Thomas Edison was born. Plasma lighting and the Edison lightbulb became practical at about the same time, basically when reliable methods for generating and distributing electricity were developed.

Some plasma based lighting that most people have seen:

                      neon signs

metal halide, mercury vapor and sodium vapor HID lamps, a.k.a “streetlights,” “parking lot lights” and “gas station lights”

searchlights (like they use for advertising at night at car lots, etc..)

                      xenon HID automotive headlights

                      common fluorescent lamps

the lamps in movie projectors used at theaters

                      PC.

Paul you're definitely the mad scientists here. Thanks for the info. I deal with neon signs and all that and was just curious if this technology was going to make it to the sign world. I know LED signs are not as bright as neon signs but do last longer and require less maintenance and in the long run is suppose to be cost efficient. Very interesting though to say the least.

Will probably make it to tanning salons where you can probably get a tan in 5 minutes or less

Probaly as long as my Sylvanis Silver Stars--two months.
