A few weeks ago when I was reading thru the Meguiar's press releases, I noticed that Barry seems to be getting ready to turn over the reins to a non-familiy member. Does anyone know if the company is privately held? Public? Anyone have any opinions on a non-Meguiar being in the top job?

Mike Phillips! Mike Phillips! Definitely worthy in my book :

This kind of stuff is out of my department, but I know Barry owns Meguiar's. I just scrolled through the top ten Press Releases and I didn't see anything that says he's turning the reins over to a non-family member.
I know Barry is passionate about the car hobby in all of its dimensions and about the company his grandfather started.
I hope I have his energy level when I'm his age.

Mike, here's the Press Release: http://www.meguiars.com/press_releas...elected_ID=108
When Barry calls it part of his "succession plan" and makes the guy the COO, I call that handing over the reins to a non-family member, unless the guy is his son-in-law (which he may be).

Hi is Barry's son-in-law! Meguiar's is one of America's oldest family businesses and it's going to stay that way.
Hope this helps...

What are you talking about?
I and others do our best everyday to answer questions and help people get the best results from their time, money and efforts.
Your saying no one ever gets help here?

Well, I put up two posts this morning — no answers. (Yes, I know, it was only this morning. Funny how this post about Barry selling out got responded to so quickly though.)
I can recall at least another two posts over the last couple of weeks where I've gotten the "It depends" answer, or "Pick what you like" answer to posts that specifically ask that the question not be answered that way.
Seems like it's more fun to gossip than work.
I am extremely frustrated, not just by this forum, but by Meguiar's products in general.
No one here seems to want to answer a question directly; I have had numerous shipping issues with just one order; I have had product failure issues from that same order; I have had product issues where what is said on this forums either contradicts (rarely) the product, or the product does not specify the who, what, when, where, and why — to which I then find out that I used wrong, purchased the incorrect product, or wasted my time by not have clear instructions.
Shipping issues have been partially cleared up, after having to wait another '7-10 days' (twice), writing several emails, and making phone calls because the emails weren't answered, to have something replaced that Meguiar's screwed up.
Customer service issues have not been resolved to date, other than an apology.
I purchase products from Meguiar's only to find out that a well-posted (on this forum) retailer sells much of the same stuff for less.
I use the strongly suggested PC at speeds recommended by both posters and moderators (per product) and then am told by customer care that it was the wrong speed.
Forum questions, to date, have only been answered properly on one occassion.
My personal forum answers to posts have been resoundly blasted, when the answer I gave was the answer I was given by customer support when I asked the question myself.
The Meguiar's website is cumbersome, awkward, and poorly designed (Hey! I need a job, and could do a much better front-end design. Not that I'd be hired after this post!). It's main front-end technology (Macromedia Flash) doesn't work half the time in current browsers. Oh well, I could go on with this, but no one will listen.
So, yes, in my personal opinion, stuff isn't getting done. Now, for those that don't read well, I said: In my personal opinion, stuff isn't getting done.
For 2hotford, I too am a volunteer. Because of our wonderful economy, I've been out of work for over a year now, and have to volunteer at a school for over 30 hours per week in exchange for rent. This is the cusp of another one of my posts — don't tell me to pick whatever I like!!! I'm asking for advice, and cannot afford to purchase the 10-12 (not necessarily an exaggeration) similar products to guess and see which one I like.
Thanks for listening to my rant. I hope I haven't spoiled anyone's day! Of course, I imagine that this will just get ignored like my last attempt at explaining something (referring to another post).

2hotford,
HAPPY B-DAY! how could you possibly put a knife to that cake?
enjoy your day!
magnus,
I replied to your post to the best of my ability. something to keep in mind that alot of us here a just learning and relilize that there are others better suited to answer the "hard" question. that said those that are better suited are also in a smaller group and are much busier than the rest of us. give them a chance to get to it, they have their hands full withe the hacker thing, not to mention this isn't the only forum that the help with. all that and hold their jobs and have family lives. I'm convinced that Mike and Tim have clones.2000
