I need opinions on a certain carburetor that I am going to buy. It is a Holly Model 4160 4 Barrel, 600 CFM, Electric choke, Single fuel inlet. I need a new carb for my thunderbird, My old one is giving out it just sprung a big fuel leak from the accelerator pump and only 2 of my four barrels are working. I found this Holly on Summit racing. It is $270.95, Any body know where I can find one new for a little less, I like Summit a lot but I am in financial situation right now (my cars and motorcycle are needing parts) and I can't keep up with the costs with my one job.

Can you just put a repair kit in the old carb at the school shop that you attend and pocket the difference ? Could ba alot cheaper.Live like you're not afraid to die.Don't be scared, just enjoy your ride. Chris Ledoux RIP

Re: I need opinions on a certain carburetor that I am going to buy.
I second (or third...) the rebuild, unless the casing is cracked which is why it's leaking gas. Most rebuild kits come with the necessary gaskets and not sure with Holley's but Quadra Jet's come with a honer for the throttle plate rods which is where they have the worst vacuum leaks, (I have a QJ on my truck and a ton of secondary rods to play with).
You could try EvilBay or even Schmucks, they will beat an advertised price by 10%! partsamerica.com is the Schmucks/Kragen/Checker internet pricing.

Re: I need opinions on a certain carburetor that I am going to buy.
Well I ended up with buying a new carb. It cost me 290 dollars plus shipping. It was time to get a new one because my car is running but barely and my choke never worked so it was hard to get it started on a cold morning. The carb that I bought is a bolt on and go. I will keep my old one and maybe rebuild it and sell it or just keep it. I will soon be selling off extra thunderbird parts soon so if anybody want extra parts for a 61 through 63 we can work a deal.Alex

Sometimes it's just better to buy a new one and slap it on rather than mess with a rebuild and run into other problems.
You could rebuild and keep as a spare.

I have found out that my old Holley is not worth any money so I guess that I will rebuild it and keep it for my self as a spare.Alex
