Re: Need COLLISION help from my MOL friends...

    Hey Bill,

Sorry to hear about the accident. I am surprised they totalled the car, but there must be a lot of structural damage that can not been seen. I am not sure how your insurance companies down there come up with their values for a car's worth, but I would take several recent photos of both the inisde and the outside when you go to the insurance company to show them how good it looked and how well it was taken care of. It may not help a lot, but it may help get a little more money out of them.

    Please keep us posted.

    Take care,
    Tim

      Bill,
Don’t let them rush you into a settlement.....they want to settle quick and cheap as possible... make sure you know all your rights and don’t let them under compensate you.

I don’t know all the laws in NY or even in Texas for that matter, but I have been there. Long story short.... I went around and around with an insurance company over a totaled car once and in the end I came out with a lot more than what they first offered.... a lot more.

They will low ball you.... you can bet on it. Do your home work and know your rights and by all means stick to your guns. Just like a lot of things, it's a negotiation process.

BTW, I’m just glad to hear you and your family were ok. Good luck!

      Does your neck feel funny???......

Sorry to hear about this, Glad to hear that you and your family are all right. I saw the photos and there could be more damage that does not meet the eye. I agree with all of the others, take lots of pics in and out of the vehicle and if you have pics when it was finished after a detail, show them to the insurance company.

UDPATE AND CLOSURE = wanted to give an update on this saga. As you know the car was totalled, their insurance company was fair in their assesment of the vehicle in terms of value. KBB listed it at $13,000, and the dealer I worked with (who was awesome) said they'd have trouble selling it for $12,500 considering all the incentives on new cars....the insurance company gave me $14,200 (thanks Meguiars!)...so I'm satisfied...the dealer worked with me to find a 2007 Sonata, same color, almost the same features (no sunroof) with 3,700 miles on it for a very reasonable price. So I upgraded the car for a little money. It's a LasVegas car and is swirled horribly. But, that's all about to change as soon as the weather breaks here...So to close this out, my old car looks like this today:

          And here's the new one:

          buffer trails

          swirls

Once I get her in the garage for a few hours, I'll post more after pictures....lastly, I want to thank you all for your support and advice during this crazy time. I never, ever want to go through that again !. I hope you all have a blessed Easter.

Glad to hear everything worked out okay!

Hopefully those holograms and swirls aren't too difficult to buff out.

              Bill,

Glad it worked out for you! Sounds like you got a great deal. And some peace of mind. Just think a couple of hours in the garage and it will look better than new!

I know that you'll work with those holograms and swirls until you get a perfect finish so I guess you have a full detail in your calendar

o wow looks like you were really taken care of..... you got more than what your car is worth and you were able to quickly find a car that you like

the new sonata looks a lot better than your old one imo..... too bad you dont have a moonroof though.... but you can just consider it as one less thing that can go wrong in the future....

so what is your attack plan for those swirls and holograms? those holograms look pretty bad

I would think 83 and then 80 and then 7 and finally nxt will be the simplest option..... take you probably a good 6 or 7 hours....

Glad it all worked out for you. The new car looks great. Can't wait to see the afters. It should look great after you "Meguiarize" it. Enjoy.

Actually when I bought mine, the new body style was just coming out and I couldn't wait...I really wanted the new style but needed to get a car....so, I now have the body style I wanted, just went about getting it in a strange way! As soon as weather breaks, I'll get at it and will post after pictures.
