I met Boyd and Jo Coddington at SEMA just a few months ago and while he didn't have much of anything to say, Jo was amazingly friendly and gave me the impression she'd talk for hours if I let her. I was actually alone with them on a corner of the show floor for a while and I initiated the conversation by asking if Jo had ever made it back to Bonneville to get into the 200mph club (if you saw the episodes of American Hot Rod you know what I'm talking about). She got this huge smile on her face and started telling me all about her experiences on the salt. Very charming, extremely friendly.
Boyd may have developed a reputation among his critics for being a bit cold, but the guy did wonders for the Hot Rod hobby. Heck, no less than Chip Foose apprenticed with him, and he did win the Grand National Roadster Show's top award 7 times!! The car hobby lost an icon today, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family.
