I can understand it, I see some of those cheapo mobile-detailing trucks come out to wash cars, and will do it right next to other people's cars, getting dirty water and spray all over them, only worrying about getting their paid customers car clean. I must say, if that happened to me, I'd want a similar sign put up too. Not saying that you guys do this, as I'm 100% sure you do not... but it might have been another detailing company's fault for that sign getting put up.

Back in my red 1977 Camero days, I was renting a high rise ocean front condo temporarily for 3 months. I guess they had a similar policy, albeit beknown to me. I went to the car wash, came back to the parking lot and began just a basic wax job. The security guard waited until I was very nearly done before coming out to inform me of the policy. Said some of the owners had complained to him earlier. I said, "I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble, and thanks for not rushing right out and getting on me about it."
My wife and I were working and most of the residents there were retired or indepedently wealthy. I can still recall coming off the elevator one morning carrying my brief case, only to be greeted by some of the residents with, "Oh, workers!". Yeah... don't rub it in.
