    People don't go around slamming on their brakes when their radar detectors go off. That is a common misconception. If that were true there would be wrecks everywhere. The word is pretty much out now that if you are first in line, get hit with instant on and are way above the speed limit you are toast.

    The V1 will pick up laser scatter which other detectors cannot. That can possibly save you from a laser ticket. But again, if you are first in line you are on your own. Depending on the speed trap situation, it may take the laser longer than 1/2 second to acquire your speed.

    The V1 arrows (and rear antenna) are helpful if a cop is sneaking up on you from behind targeting vehicles with same direction radar.

    Also, laser is not the primary means of speed enforcement everywhere. Where I live laser is rarely used. If it was I would have kept my black TA which is almost impossible to target with laser due to the popup headlights. I was sad to see the Vette do away with the popup headlights.

        I agree, instant on radar is tough to beat no matter what detector you are using.

        I don't mean to imply people are skidding to a stop because their detector went off. Human instinct though is to slow down whether you are speeding or not.

          Agreed. I did mean that though in the context of my quote.

          Although I am curious how headlights prevent it?

              With popup headlights there are less reflecting surfaces to target with the laser. Without headlights, they are left with a front plate or the foglights. I am not required to have a front plate so that helps a lot. My TA was black too which helps. So it would take a combination of things.

                I saw some front license plate mounting bracket with adjustable angle, so you can tilt little bit to avoid reflection
                ...am wondering if those gizmo help..?

                    I have a black 96 vette with no front plate. All plastic up front. I have read that they are harder to get a reading on at distance. Always wondered, never really wanted to find out firsthand.

                      Re: Passport radar detectors?

                      Very interesting discussion going on, I have only been driving a year and after reading everything there is a lot to it when it comes to radar detectors, I took it in my car and it went off a lot around a Home depot and a cell phone store, but it did find two cops staking out a spot and one on the freeway that was ahead of me. so is a V1 a passport model?

                        V1 = Valentine One

                        Nothing to do with Passport or the company Escort.
