I have noticed since I have gotten involved with the forums that when I park my car in a parking lot or where other cars are I find myself looking at the paint on the cars and trucks as i am walking away and saying woah that paint is in bad shape or man that car has alot of swirls in it. It seems as though either just starting out or doing detailing for years makes you more aware of these things and you seem to notice things about finishes that you never gave a second thought to before.

Re: Odd Quirk
It's true, when we are at shows and cruises, that's the first thing I look for when I'm up close at a car. It's amazing how many swirls and defects you see on these "perfect" cars. I always get a kick out of people when they ask me if I had a repaint on my car, being black and having no swirl marks............they just don't get it

Re: Odd Quirk
On my way back and forth to work each day, I pass an ancient brushed car wash, where the guys hand dry at the end with what look like old cotton shop cloths, and the business is bustling with BMWs, Mercedes, and Cadillacs running through it like a swirl-and-scratch factory! I partly cringe and partly chuckle at the people rolling their $60,000 cars through there week after week. I feel like parking myself across the street with a protest sign that reads, "Brushed Car Washes Kill!"2006 Chopped and Dropped Dodge Grand Caravan SXT

Re: Odd Quirk
Just yesterday the wife and I went out for lunch and when we got in our vehicle I said to my wife look at that truck parked next to us.
I said he has just washed it but forgot to clean the wheels
I also notice others looking at mine.
I stopped a a gas station and as I was leaving this young fellow came out and he kept starring at my pickup and then just stopped walking and said to me AWESOME and walked on.Black Bart

Re: Odd Quirk
I've been doing that for ages. This detailing thing is a curse! I'm hooked. I detail my sisters car all the time and offer to do the same for my friends just for the enjoyment. I get a high seeing the transformation and seeing the owners reactions during the transformation. The Best Last Step, is the step backwards you take to admire your work!

Re: Odd Quirk
It's a disease we have, I haven't found the cure ...
However, after a thorough inspection (Touching Paint) on someone's car in parking lot. The owner was kind enough to give me a close up of his fist... ouch...
