Chris, many people aren't aware that the US Secret Service is in charge of investigating internet scams. It may be worth your time to notify them of your situation and see if they can lend a hand. In my opinion, if your situation doesn't fall under being scammed nothing does.

Re: See ya around the bend

Geeze... I'm at a loss for words after reading some of these posts.

Kevin, I really appreciate the sale idea.

The posts on this thread and the other eBay thread truly show the caliber of the people on this board - always friendly, caring, and there to help.

Here's a little explanation of the watch: It's like having a '70 Plymouth Cuda with all the Hemi decals. On the outside, it looks like a six figure car, but under the hood lies a worn out 383 (sorry for the bad example, it gets the point across, though).

The case is from a highly desireable and much older watch. The bezel, band, and dial have been swapped. If I were to part it out, I would make about $1700 - lose $2100. My other option would be to find all the correct parts and put it back to the original - costs about $2000. I would lose $800.

I agree with Mike-in Orange, though. This guy's actions are so shady that I don't think we could get any money out of the deal if I were to hire an attorney.

I would like to wait and see what happens before any sales. I'm waiting to hear from the other guy to see if he's worked things out. I'll keep you guys posted.

The most disappointing thing about the whole situation is the police (here and Costa Mesa). They could care less and keep fighting over who is in charge since this is an out of state scam.

Re: See ya around the bend

I'm sorry too chris for some low-life!!cheap skate.
I don't know much at this time about what I'm about to write and maybe I'm wrong but if it will/can help I'll write it and maybe someone else knows about this and can tell if I'm right!
But if someone owes you money and you can prove it in documentation or other? I believe you can put a lien on property or something that is owned by the debtor.
and you will get what is owed to you, in time because the debtor can't sell the property until the debt is taken care of, or a deputy or the like will serve the papers to the deptor and the have a certain time to pay or have there wages garnish or something like that.
hope I told it the right way and may have helped you chris.

Re: See ya around the bend

That's kinda the problem. I'd have to go through the court system in order to obtain a lien. A travel out to California would be fun if I weren't missing class and I didn't have to pay for the plane ticket.

As far as a property lien, the scammer doesn't have much I can go after. He and his girlfriend live in an apartment. I'm guessing they both go to college. Most of his money is tied up in $10,000+ watches and I'm not sure if I can go after them.

              Thanks Daniel!

Those that have watched my posts know that I NEVER leave smilies, but I need to thank everyone for their help.

Re: See ya around the bend

As Chris mentioned, it's hard to get a lien put on something when the guilty party doesn't own anything. My wife is a Private Investigator and we had offered up some assistance to Chris in this matter. With the info Chris gave us we were able to ascertain several residences for the scammer in the past few years, some of which overlapped time-wise, but an asset search showed nothing tangible that could be attached. Ergo......not much that can really be done. Sure, Chris could file a small claims suit and undoubtedly win, but collecting is the tricky part, especially with Chris in Indiana and the scammer in SoCal.

The police have bigger fish to fry (at least until or unless this guy comes up on radar over and over and over again) so nothing would really happen there. I really think at this time all we can hope for is that Karma will take over and a chunk of that spy satellite expected to fall to Earth in late February finds this jerk.

Well, I think that Karma kinda took over...

I got an interesting email from PayPal this morning. They said that the chargeback had cleared and my $3800 has been refunded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't contain my excitement.

Now I just have to send it back - I have a few tricks (Certified mail and Restricted delivery).

                        That's great news!

If you still need to sell some of the rare items for money just let me know. I've been putting it off, I didn't really want you to have to part with them if you didn't want to.
