  • Wax that works better than Meguiar’s

Hey, I love using Meguiar’s products, but no one company can make every product that’s best for every need, every time.

So, for this particular job, I had a wax on hand that works way better than anything Meguiar’s has to offer.

Last weekend, me and my buddy Tom were taking our rides out for some major fun and we wanted to wax them before heading out.

(That’s Tom on the far right at my club’s detailing class a couple years back.)

I know what you’re thinking. How can anybody’s wax be so much better than Meguiar’s? Well, it’s all about the mindset of the manufacturer.

Meguiar’s waxes are all about looks, protection, durability and practical ease of application. None of that was really on our agenda for last weekend. We were looking for performance.

None of Meguiar’s waxes are intended to improve speed or handling. We needed a wax that would make our rides go faster, maneuver quicker and handle with more precision.

I’m pretty sure most of Meguiar’s waxes have somewhere between 5% and 50% wax content and I was really looking for some thing more like 90% to 100%.

Even though I was really after performance, I did need a measure of practicality (and we were short on time). So I went with an all-in-one instead of a specialized wax.

Oh, and the applicator was an issue too. Meguiar’s foam and microfiber applicators are great, all soft and safe for any finish, but I needed something much more heavy-duty. So I went with stainless steel.

WOW!! Where can I get some of that stuff? I'm surprised Paul Dalton doesn't use that stuff, looks like it gives great reflections and improves aerodynamics. I can't wait to try this on my car...

LOL...that's pretty funny, Paul. On a more serious note, do you actually have to heat up the wax before you put it on the skis? I'm not a skiing/snowboarder or any of that so I don't know what waxing your skis involve.

Yup, you melt the wax onto the skis.

In the pic I’m holding the stick of wax against the iron and dripping the melted wax onto the skis’ bases. Then you iron the wax into the bases.

Sorry, I forgot to get a shot of me ironing the wax in. But it looks exactly like you’d expect, sort of like using a really skinny ironing board (unless you’re doing a snowboard, then it’s about the same size as a regular ironing board).

        Brilliant. Brilliant.

When I first saw the thread title I was expecting to find the guy with the sunglasses with the blue tooth ear piece.

          Genius.

Why can't I come up with these ideas?

I will, however, steal your idea of using an iron.

But- I'm sticking with M16 Paste Wax since I feel that it's a better choice for paint.

LOL. I opened this thread wondering why someone would post a thread on the Meguiar's forum, saying they knew of a wax that works better than Meg's. Then I saw it was you and knew something was up lol. That's pretty funny. How were the slopes?

Re: Wax that works better than Meguiar’s

The "Paul Dalton" comment was way off base. He is the one using products......it's the other detail guys that jump on the bandwagon. I've never seen him once say his way was the only way unlike other detailers/forums do. He just makes money and everyone has a problem with that.

                I vented.

                To the poster......neat idea!!!
I've used over 150 different waxes....liquid, paste........and sealants to date. On average they all last about 2-3 months.....some longer......most less. Most do not realize that shine and depth with gloss come from POLISHING and not protecting.

NXT 2.0 is all anyone needs for protection after polishing.

Why do threads always have to go off on a tangent....

Let's leave Paul Dalton's name or any reference to him out of any post that is not directly related to him or his detailing.

                  Thanks,

Great! There was a big dump of snow a few days earlier so it was packed powder and blue skies.

You totally fooled me. I was expecting this write up of some random wax for cars. I saw the pic of the ski wax and was thinking, is he really going to use ski wax for his car? You are hilarious. Have you tried the wax made by RED which is manufactured by Burton? It makes my snowboard go super fast.
