Kind of a useless thread, but I figured... what forum would be more likely to understand it than MOL?
I've got a big car show coming up this Saturday so yesterday I started getting the car ready. It's a daily driver, so I'm working in my spare time and yesterday I had a lot of time to kill before working my 6-11 night shift.
Started at about 11am, removed the headlights off my Mustang. I got some aftermarket smoked clear corner housings and they had been fogging up when it rained, so I purchased some 100% silicon and sealed them up nicely. I then proceeded to remove the front grille trim piece and license plate off the rear, leaving the headlights off to dry... and having my car look pretty stripped.
Then I got out the bucket and mitt, poured in some Gold Class Shampoo/car wash and got busy cleaning.
Dried with an absorber and a quick drive around the block (didn't feel like getting the leaf blower out).
Used a brand-new claybar out of the Meguiars Smooth Surface kit, using the extra-large bottle of QD I bought for lubricating purposes. Went over the entire car.
Then it rained, and I had to dry the car again with an absorber LOL.
Then I used the little bottle of Meguiars Cleaner Wax that comes with the claybar. Applied with a new foam Turtle Wax pad (I know, I know... but I didn't have any Meguiars ones) and removed with a microfiber.
Then I got out the Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish and did the car in sections. Applied the polish, let it sit for like 2 seconds, and wiped off. Did the whole car like that.
Then I took a break for lunch, and to see how the headlights were drying up. I also was painting a billet fuel door I bought for the Mustang... and I messed up and got a finger print in the paint. When I went to re-sand the surface, I dropped the fuel door onto the floor and it shattered the mounting bracket. So no fuel door for me.
Put the stock door back on.
Then I went back outside and applied a coat of Meguiars Deep Crystal Carnuaba Wax to the whole car using a Meguiars foam pad and removing with a Meguiars microfiber I had gotten out of an old claybar kit and never used.
Now the paint looks great, nice and ready for the show. I've still got to do the interior, engine bay, wheels/tires, and wheel wells. Saturday morning it will get a quick wash and dry because I have to drive to school and back every day so the car will surely be dirty again by then.
I'll be sure to post up pictures of the show on Sunday!!
