  • Washing machine....

Not sure if this belongs here or not, but if not it'll give Mike something to do for a couple of seconds while he moves it

Our trusty old washer went out this week, and we needed to buy a new one. I've always had my doubts about the new HE washers. But got a return policy that I couldn't pass up, so I bought one. Maytag Bravos series, top loader HE washer.

Of course the first load through the new washer had to be towels , and we go through a LOT of towels! First thing I noticed, there's hardly any water How can you clean clothers with so little water? Then I noticed this thing doesn't act like a traditional wahing machine. It doesn't agitate the load like I'm used to. I couldn't understand how this thing could get clothes clean with this type of action and so little water

Load finished(very quitely I may add), everything was perfectly clean! Even stains that seemed to be set in from previous loads, were gone! And not only that, but this thing spins the load out at 15 million RPM's(yes that is an exageration), and the towels were pretty much dry when I took the out of the washer! Popped them in the drier, and they were completely dry in 15 minutes!

Am I getting old? I'm sitting here bragging about our new washing machine

      Hi Nick,

Since this was an off topic post, I moved it here to the Breakroom Forum.

And yes...I like Maytag as well.

I need to get a new dryer. Mine is pretty old, it has the fake wood grain on it. The washer and drier came with the house. All the places I go looking at dryers tell me that the washer has a lot to do with dry time too. I'll have to check out washers too I guess.

So did you wax it yet? lol

              Re: Washing machine....

We notied some of the same things when we purchased our HE front load washer/dryer. It uses very little water when compared to our old top load washer. It also doesn't continuously agitate, but agitates intermittently.

The loads do take longer, so that would be my one complaint, but I can't complain about the results.

                Re: Washing machine....

We bought a front load pair early last year and have had great results. The new HE type machines clean as good or better than the old water hogs we've had in the past. They're pretty cool to watch work (yeh, I have no life) It's like 10,000 year old technology of beating your clothes on a rock but brought into the modern age. The wash cycles are a little longer but since they spin so fast, the drying time is a lot shorter. Never have to wait for the dryer to finish like past setups. We bought the Maytag Epic....made by Whirlpool in Germany (go figure) Best part was getting $100 rebate from my water company on the washer and a $75 rebate from the gas company.......not a lot compared to the cost of the machines, but better than a kick in the head.

Congrats on the new washer and dryer! From the sounds of it. It looks like it is going to save you some money on your utilities. Way to go. Good luck with them.
