  • My detailing travel kit

Forum member roushstage2 started a thread in the "New Product Suggestions" section about 4oz sample size bottles and some folks mentioned making up their own little detail kits to carry with them at all times.

I've put together such a kit for my own use from a travel kit and and some additional 4oz bottles I picked up at Wal-Mart. These are available in the health & beauty section by the travel and trial size items. I think the case was something like $15 and it came with a couple of spray bottles and squeeze bottles so I added a couple of spray bottles for what I wanted in the kit. I must confess though that this was not my idea as Shawn (AKA MaximusZTS) first told me about these kits during a Thursday Night Open Garage session several months ago.

I keep one of these in each of my cars. The case holds all the bottles in the outer pocket and I have microfiber towels and an applicator pad in the inside pockets. Each kit contains the following:

    Leather Cleaner
    Leather Conditioner
    NXT Tech Wax
    NXT Glass Cleaner
    Quik Interior Detailer
    Quik Detailer
    Quik Wheel Detailer

    I'm ready for any emergency!!

I have been carrying my detail supplies in one of those plastic storage boxes with the split hinge top. I wash my car when I am in an another area without water restrictons including a foam gun, wash mit, car wash, wax, applicators, detailer, glass cleaner, drying towel, and misc. MF towels.

That is a well put together case!

I was told by a detailer friend where to go online to buy those size bottles, etc. They have everything! I just need to order them!

I will figure something out for the labels when I actually get them.

                  Nice set up.

I have some 4oz and some 8oz bottles. The 8oz gets to be too big of a container, plus I have to remember I'm not doing the entire car just for touch-ups.

Funny story (well I thought it was funny). I was going somewhere with one of my friends in his truck, we get off the freeway and on the bottom of the ramp off to the side is a guy with a classic red corvette. He's wiping the hood down with a bath towel. I just cringed. If I would have been in my truck I would have stopped and giving him a microfiber and some QD.

Just pick 'em up at WalMart - they're less than a dollar per bottle (79 cents if I remember right), you don't have to pay shipping charges and you get them NOW.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I made the labels myself (obviously) using your basic Avery label sheets available at Staple, etc, and just laid it out using the labels & envelopes set up in MS Word. After affixing the labels to the bottles I further wrapped them in clear packing tape to make sure they stayed put in the event of any leakage. I had a problem with the labels not staying put at first, but this fixed the problem.

I don't have any stores near me that carry those, hence the suggestion for Meguiar's ones. I have tried the Wal-Mart and K-Mart and Dollar Tree. That is all that is around for about 50 miles.
