The area between east Charlotte and the Kannapolis/ Concord area has grown tremendously in the last 20 years. So much that K & C are trying to get state legislators to allow them to siphon water from the Catabwa River system...which is miles away.

That action even got South Carolina involved in the act, as they depend on the Catawba system too.

I just hope that our local leaders on this side of Charlotte don't let things (land use) get out of hand like Atlanta has.

That is just what I have been doing of late...albeit at night.

Well, I'm not trying to water my lawn at all, but I am washing my car illegally on the grass.

If a policeman catches me, I will inform him that I am watering my lawn and I am letting it hit my car first.

We've had a water restriction since early summer. Our city water supply was 12' below normal up until a few weeks ago. Finally, we're getting some rain. Hopefully, next spring won't be as bad on us.

Weve never had water restrictions here in my part of Kentucky. I guess we have so many straight pipes it keeps the rivers full..

Water usage awareness here [Georgia] is just off the chart. You break out your hose around here and the water cops will get you in a heartbeat. Steep fines, court dates, your name and address in the paper are the milder consequences when caught. Some surrounding towns and counties dropped this hand slapping and now it is straight to jail and they lock your water meter.
Looking ahead a couple of months into my crystal ball I see that all commercial car washing along with many commercial water users [power utilities] being severely curtailed or shut down. Our nursery, landscaping, pool and pressure washing companies have had to shut down and they are Out of business as the drought continues.

As a car detailer I was presented with a couple of hard choice’s this fall.
I wanted to be a good citizen and continue to stay in business. With all of the awareness in the media I needed a Green environmentally friendly product so I can stand head and shoulders above my competition.

I tested a couple of products available in the marketplace and have switched to ONR using store bought distilled water [processed out of our area.]

Boo Hoo…I have a four gallons of unused Gold Class shampoo just sitting here.

The mayor of Raleigh NC is going to stage 3 restrictions, limited toliet flushing, paper plates cups and utensils, recommending wearing clothes more than once between washings etc.
It also means anyone who does power-washing is out of business, car washes that do not reclaim water will also be closed.

I had not idea people were in such droughts. Weve been getting nothing but rain for the past two weeks.. Some mild flooding too.

We've been in stage 3 for two months now.

Thankfully, we already had a low flush commode installed a few years ago. We also just recently installed a low flow shower head too.

Can't quite afford one of those expensive front loading washing machines at
                  this time.

I'd like to buy one as soon as possible though. The water & energy savings should be tremendous.

What do you think of the ONR product?

Bought a set about six months ago (getting ready for tighter restrictions) and they're quite amazing. One fourth the water usage and drying time cut down substantially. Stuff comes out as clean or cleaner than our top loader with about a quarter of the detergent. There are some quirks but you can figure them out in short order.....good stuff.

Mort (now experimenting with dryer balls....sure work great on MF towels)

                        Wow...that is amazing.

The savings might be enough to cover the monthly payments maybe? (I usually like to pay with cash up front myself, if possible)
