Re: When I win the lottery.......
your going to share it with me?
fly out and detail my Jeep?
If I won... I would quit my job and detail. First I would take a couple years traveling to different shops learning what I could.
And yes I would help others too. That's a given for me. I do what I can now but it would be great to be able to do more.Scott

Re: When I win the lottery.......
Invest it, make more out of it
Give some to my family and try to help out others.
With the interest that bank gives me I would live with that and start enjoying life.
BTW I like in Dominican Republic, here Banks give you between 9% and 12% of interests, depends on the amount of money.

Re: When I win the lottery.......
It all depends on how much the lottery payout is. First week of a new draw here in California pays $7M gross but if you take the cash value it's just over half that. Considering the cost of real estate in California that won't really get you all that far. Oh sure, it will take care of your bills, your mortgage, car loans, etc and give you a very nice nest egg for retirement. It will even allow you to travel a bit.
But if you hit it when the numbers are more like $80M it changes things quite a bit! College funds for all the nieces and nephews, pay off mortgages for brothers and sisters, etc, nice new home, collection of some favorite cars, lots of travel, donate seriously to some major charities, and still have plenty left over to invest and live very comfortably on that income.Michael Stoops

Re: When I win the lottery.......
I'd go back to school depending on how much I won. Like Mike-in-Orange said, cost of living is high in California. Winning $1 mil is only $50k per year for 20 years before taxes. Most folks in their 30's or younger will not be retired within 20 years.

Re: When I win the lottery.......
I would continue the life I lead(I am retired) with the purchase of a new garage with attached house. Kids college funds fully stocked, the wife's college loan paid in full, and all of my personal bills paid off.
Then I would volunteer more for Boy Scouts(my son is involved), volunteer in reading programs for the disabled and disadvantaged(my wife's passion) and spend more time helping the elderly of this country. A good place to start is visits to rest homes as well as hospitals weekly. Since I am in an Army town I would do things to support our troops and their families as well.
I traveled all my life during my work career. I would like to stay home and enjoy the surroundings. Make new friends and be a community volunteer and supporter of local charities.cwcad

Re: When I win the lottery.......
Sometimes the pic is there and sometime it isn’t –weird!
It is a pic of a beautiful garage lined with Ferraris.
If I really won the lottery, first thing I would do is take care of family. Get’em out of debt, buy cars and houses. Then friends.
After I was settled down with where I wanted to live and all I would put a self sustaining org. together that will help children. Many kids are sick or hungry or abused or poor. I’d do my best to fix that.
I then would fund a legal support team for things I believe in. It would be a God fearing, anti-aclu, put the 10 commandments back on the wall, prayer in school type of organization.
I would also start an org. that will help good people get ahead – “to help those that help themselves” with job training and support and that type of thing. Of course we would have a special program for veterans.
When all that was handled then my 1964 Riviera would be taken down to the frame and every nut and bolt restored!

Agreed, take care of family first and friends second.
However, there is a small stipulation: The friends who are truly struggling due to some of life's unfairness should truly be helped. I have a select few close friends to whom I would truly give the shirt off of my back in a blizzard(even one here at MOL). I have no sympathy for people who ignore their situation in life and do not work hard to get ahead or even or work hard for the things that they need or want.
Help out some more with my community and church. Get a job,(most likely working on cars where I could spend more time with my family) Probably a detailing business.
Children need mentors. They need to have some insight from those of us who have struggled to see that at times life is unfair but education is the key to their long term success. STAY IN SCHOOL!
The Ten Commandments are the basis of my own personal religion, however, I do not force them on anyone. I do feel that they should be displayed in every school, however, no one should be forced to believe. Prayer and belief in a religion is needed in life, regardless of Religion, Race or Creed.
All in all I agree with you wholeheartedly:
1. Take care of family. I think I have seen a true dedication to family from all of the members of MOL.
2. Take care of the hard working friends who need to get ahead.
3. Everyone needs to have faith, regardless of you denomination.
4. Help the community and world where I can make some kind of difference.
5. Last but not least, take care of yourself. Without that none of the above would be possible.Keeping MOL family friendly! If you need help or have a question, don't hesitate to shoot me an email or PM. 101impala@gmail.com
