  • to paint or not to paint...

This question concerns a predicament my mother happens to be in at this time; she scratched up the right side of her car Sunday night, and she's wondering whether or not to repaint the entire car (ten year old dark green Mercedes), or just the side that's been scratched. Her mechanic told her the newly painted area would stand out (too shiny) from the relatively older factory paint job.

    Any advice?

her mechanic doesnt know about detailing... but the repainted side might possibly look darker than the original paint... but my dad had the front panels on his van replaced and the colors matched pretty well even though the original paint was like 10 years older... and i dont really get why wouldnt you fix a scratch like that.... unless you think the car is not worth it

She wants to repair the damage, but fortunately it's just a long scratch requiring no body work. The problem is that she doesn't know how obvious the new paint will appear.

I know that it's hard to make a recommendation w/ out seeing the car, but figured I'd ask anyway. Thanx for your advice.

First off... Can you feel the scratch with your finger nail?

The reason I ask is maybe it can be fixed without a repaint at all. If you can post photos it would help a great deal. That way we could see what the rest of the paint looks like also.

I can feel where it's been scratched, and I'll post a couple of pictures as soon as I can.
