  • Liquid Clay Bar, lolololol

I'm sorry, couldn't resist. Some kid from my Matrix forums was questioning this stuff and how good it was compared to a real clay bar system. I almost fell off my chair at work laughing.

I then urged him to do it right and get Clay Magic or the Meg's Clay Bar System, along with a few pics of the results. This stuff seems to cover up things, where a real clay bar actually removes paint inpurities and fallot. (hence your was coating protects from these elements)

Oh well, hopefully he got the message.

I just bought some of that stuff and am going to be trying it out soon. I have used both Meguiars and Clay Magic clay systems and both work well. I won't pass judgement on this product until I try it.

Have you tried this product or are you just making assumptions?

There is a discussion going on at autopia about this stuff. People who didn't try it make negative comments about it, but the two who actually tried it had positive comments.

I'll certainly follow these ongoing discussions since this product is cheap and my local CT stopped selling the Mothers clay kit and raised the Meguiar's clay kit price afterwards.

Hers my $0.02 The two people that liked it. How much is thier passion. Experiance level, and lastly have they ever used the meg's clay kit or others. To me the best way is to do a side by side test. Then the proof would be in the pudding so to speak. This isn't meant to knock anyone or product. Just imho until someone does a side by side this debate could go on forever. I have just finished claying my car, so I really have no interest to do the test spot.

my buddy had a bottle of it..i used it on a black acura..the problem is that ive never used megs clay..just bought the clay kit last week..will use it in may before graduation..

here are pics of the car:

          Megs GC
          Still wet...then used liquid clay..
          dried..waxed with megs gc
          Hot rims/F21

maybe megs clay will be better..i dont see how it wouldn't be..cmon now..but why laugh at the liquid clay bar..look up..However, i don't like how TW wants 15.00 for this product!..id rather get the megs kit that comes with detailer spray/mf towel/2 50g clay bars/4oz cleaner wax!!!

          i apologize because i dont have the befores..but i live in Boston..not the suburbs..hmm...

I cant wait to try the megs!!

            Re: Liquid Clay Bar, lolololol

I can't comment on how it works but what really ticks me off is the deliberately confusing name.

If it's a liquid it is not a clay bar! As a liquid, it's some form of cleaner or compound or cleaner/polish or whatever. It may work just fine, but it is absolutely, positively, NOT a bar.

There's already too much confusion among those who haven't tried clay bars. This just makes it worse. And note that the "liquid" part of the title is in a lower case, small font but the "CLAY BAR" is prominent. It's my opinion (and yes, it's just an opinion) that the whole marketing angle is a blatant attempt to capitalize on the performance, popularity and success of clay bars without having to actually come up with one.

If somebody finds it works for them and they want to use it that's fine, power to 'em. I’m even curious about it myself, on an intellectual level anyway. But there's no way they're getting any of my money.

Saumil, nice work. Looking forward to your side-by-side comparison.

Perhaps Meguairs should sell Nxt Paste Liquid and Nxt Liquid Paste....

                Re: Liquid Clay Bar, lolololol

The naming does irk me. My brother did use this on his Jetta for a quick method of claying. But to me claying does not take very long at all to begin with. I came by his house with my stuff before he washed. I sprayed his car off after he used his liquid. Then went over the car with my bar. The clay bar was not as black as it would have been but it def. picked up a few more contaminents the other stuff left behind. His paint felt a lot smoother after I used mine as well.

I have seen both, the liquid clay will work for the everyday. But I am a bit more meticulous with my detaling so I will stick with my clay bar and know I am getting pro results.

BTW, I love the looks on my client's faces when I clay the car after washing and show them what I pulled up, AFTER I washed it down good. Their jaws always drop!

                  Re: Liquid Clay Bar, lolololol

The real question here is: If it DOES work, how does it remove bonded contaminants? Does it dissolve them? If so, how? I'm my opinion if there's a liquid that claims that removes bonded contaminants it's either two things...snake oil, or a really strong chemical...just my 2 cents.

                    Re: Liquid Clay Bar, lolololol

Even if there is bits of clay in a suspenion, wont they just flow around the contaminant if there is nothing there to really force them onto the contaminant?

A paint cleaner will also make your paint smoother, whether you clay or not, and this sounds like a bit of both.

Hopefully CWM3 can do half the hood both ways, and even pass over the TW side with a clay bar to see what extra stuff comes off.

It not only claims to remove surface contaminants, but swirls as well. Two very different problems requiring two very different solutions.
