    Re: Carnauba v.s Synthetic

I know. However, have you ever worked with these products? I will admit i have never tried these. But, out of everything i have tried, meguiars produces the best, most consistent results. Just because something costs more does not mean that it is better.

Totally agree with you!! Thejoyofdriving, you seem to always say a product is good or bad based on "research", the best research is your own research!!

Yup your own research is the best research. Also a company that backs up their products is the best company. Look for the extreme Benz makeover Meguiars did. You see Zymol doing that? Does Zymol have a place you can go to for help online? Most importantly, Does Zymol have Mike Phillips? I dont think so

And its not like they were advertising for zymol either, they didnt show any lables to my knowledge, and i also dont remember them mentioning zymol. The reason i know it was zymol, is because i havent been able to find any thing else close to the products he was using. There is no doubt in my mind that he was using mostly zymol products. I used "hope" as a figure of speech.
You need to search this forum for posts by Superior Shine. Joe, the owner of SS, is probably one of the most talented paint care artists you'll find anywhere. He is a 100% Meguiar's user and routinely details not only megabuck cars, but cars from multi million dollar collections. Does that alone make Meguiar's the finest car care company around? No. But Meguiar's does make a truly excellent line of paint care products, and they are excellent products because they do the job intended, they do it well enough that a total novice can get great results, and they also do it well enough that in the hands of a true artist, like Joe, they can make a million dollar car look like three million.

This takes nothing away from Zymol's hyper expensive Estate Wax series or the talent's of this particular detailer in the UK. Again, excellent products in very skilled hands. I'll bet you the cost of that Maserati MC12 he was working on that the exact same results could be achieved if he used the same Meguiar's products and techniques that Joe uses. But there is a certain mystique that comes from being able to claim the use of a $7000 hand applied wax, isn't there? And hey, if you've already dropped a cool mil on the car, what's a few grand to keep it looking pretty, right? Heck, a new clutch for that thing costs more than a lightly used Toyota Camry, so a five figure detail is pocket change. But really, who's throwing away the money here - the car owner who pays a few grand for the detailing, or the detailer who pays a few grand for the wax when he could top off with M16 (which is still available in the UK) and increase his profit margin accordingly? Remember, the bulk of the shine you get comes from the prep, not the final wax you put on. Yes, different waxes and sealants will impart different looks, but none of them will show their true potential unless the prep is impeccable. I'll give that UK detailer the benefit of the doubt and say his prep work is awesome. I know for a fact that Joe's is.

For a lot of people it comes down to image and brand exclusivity more than anything else. For those who really know, it's more about what offers true value and outstanding performance at the same time. And that's true for more than just wax - it goes for almost everything in life.
