A full paint job? Depending on how much body work is needed, the quality of paint job you're looking for, what you want out of it (cheap daily driver, beater that you just want to look presentable, or a show car paint job) it will cost you between $600 and $20,000 or more.

This is our 1992 Camaro RS that was repainted two years ago for $800. It needed no body work other than stripping off the balance of the paint from the roof and deck lid. 1992 was around the time that many domestic manufacturers had issues with paint adhesion - this car did not have clear coat failure, rather the paint was literally flaking off the primer in the two areas mentioned. My wife bought this car new in '92 and it only has 78,000 miles on it. It's now my foul weather/beater car. Oh, sure, it looks decent in these pictures, but $800 doesn't get you much. Prep was minimal, the paint isn't terribly flat, but at least it isn't flaking off any more and it does shine halfway decent. Just don't get closer than 15 feet or so. Unless you really know what to look for - then step back another 10 feet or so!! For my purposes, and the value of this car, I'm perfectly happy with this cheap paint job.

Yeah, the better looking, the more expensive...a guy at my school restored a family original owned 1964 GTO with the original 404 and put 15K into the paint job....

That aint half bad. Honestly I have CCF in a few areas(especially the roof), door dings that took off paint off my doors, cracked paint on the upper side panels, and rock chips in my hood so yeah you could say I need a full repaint. And honestly it doesnt have to be amazingly perfect I just want some shine and a clean look. I mean the results I have acheived with meguiar's products along with all the damage it has it still looks better than half the cars on the road haha. Because no one here in riverside takes care of their vehicles it seems. I've seen cars come thru my work that cost more than I make in 2 years and still look like ****. But yeahh thanx for the info and I'll see you at the open garage thursday! (not my truck with me, my dads car will be with us 05 camry, pretty darn nice besidess some minor swirls we are gonna work out soon).

And honestly my truck is this way because my dad didnt take care of the paint as well as he did the mechanical aspect.. and then i bought it off him, its my first car, and its extremely reliable.

I recently paid $1200 to have some rock chips and other body work done (not a full repaint). This was at cost! I was not charged labor because the body shop guy is a good friend of ours.

            Re: Paint job.

I had an 88 Escort that had clear coat failure. I bought it in 93 and it had 50K miles and drove it for 10 years. At about 8 years, I had a $400 paint job. The guy repeated what I had been told many times before about new paint emphasising the dents. But I wasn't willing to spends twice that much and told him that shiny dents would suit me fine. It did. It wasn't great, but it looked a lot better and that satisfied me.
