Mobil 1. I am thinking about trying Royal Purple, but I'm not sure.

I changed my mower over from M1 5w-30 to Penzoil Platinum.

Has anyone tried prolong motor oil?

I haven't but it's supposed to be good too.

Mobil1 „Formula Protection“ (0W-40) for nearly all cars.

Mobil1 „Rally Formula“ (5W-50) for extreme sportcars like the BMW M3, M5 or the Mercedes SLR.

More information unfortunately only in german language here: "http://www.pixelgate.info/privat/stefan/%F6lweisheiten.htm#_Toc100759106".
It's a summary from a very interesting thread here: "http://www.motor-talk.de/showthread.php?forumid=62&threadid=230315&perpage=15&pagenumber=8"

I trust my car to the star...

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't turned into a can of worms. Often, when it comes to the subject of motor oil, much like car wax, there are many opinions and it can often get quite personal.

From experience, I have to say that you can't go wrong with any quality, name-brand motor oil out there on the market. The most important thing to remember is to use the specific weight recommended for your car and change it based on your driving habits. Also, sending a sample to an oil analysis lab (my favorite is Blackstone) can be informative to help you learn how your engine is wearing.

For me personally, I change it every three months, regardless of mileage. I do so because I have a short commute to work and the engine doesn't always have the opportunity to fully warm up. In addition, I feel that changing it "seasonally" helps to remove any contaminants and ensures a fresh fill at least four times a year.

                  I'd go with Eneos 0W50.

I agree. Nothing but BP 93 Octane for my LS2 and Mobile 1 for oil.

0-40 is the factory fill for Vipers. Says it right on the oil cap.

If mobil 1 is so good then why does BMW recommend castrol?

It's because BMW has a supply contract with Castrol !

Important for BMW's warranty is that the used oil has a BMW release like BMW LL-01 or BMW LL-04!

BMW is sponsored by Castrol in Formula 1. (McLaren is sponsored by Mobil 1, so BMW likely couldn't easily hook up with them.) Euro Castrol is good stuff, but the NA stuff is not a group IV synthetic.

As mentioned by Power man, Mobil 1 0W40 is BMW Longlife 01 certified, along with being certified by Porsche, Mercedes, GM and VW. Yes, other synthetic oils (potentially uncertified) are also good (Royal Purple for one) but with certification you can be sure that you won't have any problems down the line.

Try searching for "Acura RDX" at Mobil1.com to look at a brochure discussing the testing of Mobil 1 for the new turbo engine in this vehicle.

Hey thanks for changing my poll to include mobil 1 mike. It seems no one here has used q-power, it looks to be good stuff. red line is suppose to be top quality to.
