MOL buddies, it is time to replace my digi cam. I want something very small, like pocket-size, canon elph type small-but not necessarily a canon elph.

Any suggestions? I would like decent vid 640x480, metal case, image stabilizer, plenty of modes, and ease of use, and of course great photos, I am really looking to improve upon my action shots.

I have a Canon S2 IS, its nice, but a lil too advanced for me and thing is super bulky.

I would like to stay under $300

    Thanks!

The Canon SD600 was on sale for $154 last week http://www.slickdeals.net/index.php?...&searchtype=fp

but its back up now. its an excellent, very compact camera.

I dont know if you'll easily find image stabilization amongst the ultra compacts? not sure

PS - I have a Canon A70 for sale for under $100 lol if you're interested.

      work at an electronic store.

      a few solid ones.

      Canon SD600
      Canon SD700

or the Sony DSCW55B or the same one in silver.

all three are small and awesome compact cameras.

It is rumored, according to news articles, that entry level DSLRs will be in the $300 range by the end of the year. That means a Rebel XTi, an outstanding camera, will be had for $300! If that happens that will be incredible. If you ever take pics of anything that moves, you'll want a DSLR to avoid the shutter lag!

If you want to stay with a point and shoot, the A70 and Sony W55 are also very good cameras! I prefer the A series in the Canon point an shoot series.

I had a nice Pentax Optio S -- fits in an Altoids tin. Problem is, I hopped off of a boat this past summer with it still in my pocket. Great little camera in about every way, but not so good in indoor flash.

For Christmas I got the Canon S3 IS. Not pocket size, but a great digicam. Don't buy anything without reading some excellent reviews at StevesDigicams.com.

well I think i may settle on the Canon SD1000, seems to have most of what I want, and CC has them for $280. Hopefully I can actually shoot some before/after shots of my car. The weather just wont break here in order to get a full days detail in...UGH...thanks for the recommondations the 1000 is basically just and upgrade from the SD600.

Competition. Nikon just came out with the D40X to compete with the XTi. There were articles in USA Today and The Indianapolis Star.

Here is a link to the article:

SD1000 worked well this weekend, VERY please with the camera, it is small than a deck of playing cards, yes I know I could better with an SLR, but i didnt want the bulk.
