Hey thanks for sharing! your lucky i wish i had some places for some serious racing. btw what is the BHP on that PT, is it stock?

It's getting further and further from stock all the time!! Right now it's got the Mopar Stage 1 upgrade on it, which gives 240HP and 265lb-ft of torque but it also has the smoother flowing composite intake from the 2006 and newer models (factory claim is another 8HP) and a dual stage boost controller along with hard pipes for all the turbo plumbing. The front tires will break loose from a 20mph roll even with the boost controller set to the low level. I'm hoping for a day of decent weather at the drag strip to run it with this dual stage boost controller and see if I can get into the high 13 second bracket. But too often we've got a 25 mph headwind and 100 degree temps at the drag strip out here, which isn't great for optimum performance!!!!

I know guys who have installed big turbo kits, proper fuel feed, larger downpipes, etc and are running in the mid to low 12 second 1/4 miles with these things, and these are daily drivers. Add a shot of juice and one of them is in the high 11 second range. Not what one normally thinks when you say "PT Cruiser"

performance driving 9 and 3 usually. in an evo with 370whp, you hold on pretty hard. except to shift of course

There are so many lousy drivers on the road today that I think everybody should be made to go through performance driving training.

I couldn't agree more. My partner's Aunt and Uncle do lots of HPDE. They have a '99 vette and an '06. She is one of the high performance driving instructors for the Thunderhill Raceway school (free track time ), and a lot of times works with the Hooked On Driving instructors. She is FAST!!! They race at Reno-Fernley and at Buttonwillow also. I believe they race Laguna Seca every once in a while too. But I always feel so safe in the vettes with them, or any other car for that matter, because they KNOW what they are doing.

I usually use my right hand to pick a good radio station, my left is hanging out the window, and my knees are on the steering wheel about 5 and 7. For real, I like to go about 10 and 3. I also put my seat all the way down and pretty far back- I just think it feels like i get pressid into the seat around corners a little more.

Do an HPDE day or go to a driving school - they'll have you move your seat just close enough so that with an outstretched arm, but with your shoulders square, you can rest your wrist on the top of the steering wheel. Much, much better control over the car that way. It's just astonishing the things you learn from a race instructor and how much better a driver it makes you. But above all else, sessions like this teach you to be aware of your surroundings.

While accelerating I drive 12 and shifter
At speed I usually drive 10 / 2 (just as in a kart)

I sit quite close to the steering wheel - gives me better control on the brakes and throttle and feels more "secure" when hard cornering.

Not only do the vast majority of drivers have no clue how to handle their car in an emergency, they have no clue what their car's limits are and how to manage the car at those limits.

COMPLETELY. Like vettemaniac said above, my aunt and uncle do a LOT of HPDE, and they are VERY good drivers, and have been teaching me quite a bit.

I have just gotten my permit (on Mar 15th) and am realizing, now that i have just started driving, that not only are a lot of other people absolute IDIOTS on the road, but i can be at times, and cannot wait until september when i get my license, and actually get some track time to improve...A LOT

Oh, and so far from what i have experienced, i like 9 and 3, or 10 and 2, taking my right hand off the wheel for shifting. Much more control i think. :

Nice to see a new driver being this honest about his abilities and desire to learn more. When I was going through driver's ed my dad asked me what we were being taught. While he figured that learning the laws was fine, he figured we weren't learning anything about car control. So, one dreary and snowy (my parents live in Michigan) Saturday morning he woke me up around 5:30AM and took me out for a little lesson in car control. In an empty and rather sizable K-Mart parking lot. Before the snow had been cleared. Yeah baby, drifting, 1975 style!!! Never before, and never since, has learning been that much fun.

Probably because he (she?) drives a standard. It's the same way with me; if I'm steering with one hand, it's usually my left. I had to teach myself to steer with my right hand so I could put my arm out the window. Lol. Even now that I can steer fine with my right, I usually don't because I drive a standard.

Im a he thank you Also I drive an automatic unfortunately but I just find it easier for myself to drive like that. Plus next car I own will be a manual for sure.
