While unappealing to all including myself, I don't know of any other way of describing the problem. I have a 2004 Kia Optima. It is a dark metallic blue and in my opinion on of the prettiest cars on the road. I've had it for 3 years and have 70K on it. I've kept it washed at least every two weeks and usually every week.
About 6 months after I bought it, I was diagnosed with melanoma. Fortunately, after a few surguries and a year of interferon (the medicine from hell) treatment, it appears to be gone for good.
During the interferon treatment I was usually so sick and weak that I could hardly get out of bed much less do any car care on my own, so nearly all of those washings were courtesy of the local drive through car wash. It was also during this time that I would occasionally need to spit out the window and sometimes due to my weakened condition and possibly poor planning, it didn't alway clear the side of the car. Now I've known for years to take care of bird dropping ASAP, but it didn't cross my mind that spit would be just as bad if not worse.
Now I have about 3 spots on the drivers side of my car that won't come off. I've had the car clayed and waxed recently and while that helped overall, it didn't do anything to improve those spots. They are very smooth to the touch, so it seems to have dried into the clear coat. Nobody else seems to notice these spots and it's a daily driver obviously not a show car, but they bother me. Am I SOL or does someone know of something short of a paint job that will work.
One more thing. The car wash I use is not a touchless one, but the owner assured me that scratches were not a problem there because his car wash uses cloth instead of plastic brushes. I have never noticed any obvious scratches and in my opinion my car still looks great considering the age, mileage and the fact that I don't have a garage to keep it in.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
