Are there any Bay area people who felt the earthquake Thursday night? It was a 4.2 magnitude, and the epicenter was a 5 minute drive from my house. It felt a lot bigger then that! Luckily only a few things fell off of our shelves.

I remember literally being tossed out of bed during the Sylmar quake.
It's taken me a year to get used to being able to put things on shelves up here in Cody without bolting anything down. The earthquakes up here are microscopic. On the other hand, when the Yellowstone caldera blows, that's it. At that point, who cares? California will probably become the new Atlantis (Pacifica?) and the rest of you guys will be under 6 feet of volcanic ash!
I found this map of where the caldera has deposted ash in previous eruptions (100,000s to millions of years ago.)
This time I did. The epicenter was 3 miles from us, so we felt it. It was a jolt with about 7-8 seconds of rolling. Now that is nothing compared to Loma Prieda.... My parents have stories about that. I've watched some pretty intersting shows about volcanoes, and I sure hope there aren't any that go off anytime soon! The amount of ash is just astounding. It looks like the ash zone on that map would just miss us though....

The map doesn't show all the stuff thrown into the upper atmosphere that would cause a "day after" effect, blocking out the sun.
There could be a little problem with the food supply in the mid west. You know, that area between California and New York where farmers actually grow stuff that magically appears at Alberson's and Ralphs.
Naw, I'd rather be 80 miles from the caldera and get it over with!
