  • Car Covers

    Good morning,

Like a 'wax' not all car covers are created equal, and that is my questions and my problem. I have a very red 2006 VW GTI MkV and I'm looking to acquire a car cover because it is outside 7x24. I have looked and the various advertisements in the back of Road & Track and Car & Driver, and have gone out onto the internet as well but which to buy?

Meguiar’s Online has always come through tin the past with excellent information and advice, and I am hoping that it will do so again. Like I said I have a red 2006 VW GTI MkV that is outside 7x24 and is my daily drive to work. I am looking for a cover that will protect my investment while not adversely impacting the finish. I don’t plan to change my care and feeding routine as I wash every week rain or shine, hose off at least twice a week, NXT detailing spray after each wash, and a new coat of NXT every 2 months.

I need your advice and opinions and the various brands and materials used that will give my ride the protection that it needs. I am willing to spend up to $250 so that should mean that just about everything is on the table. I look forward to your comments.

Covercraft seems well liked. When Meguiars sold covers, they were made by Covercraft. You can even call them and get fabric samples.

Taking covers on and off a dirty car is never good though, so you will have to judge for yourself if you'll be ok.

Dirty car, what's that? I agree but I found my 'Car Crazy' gene once again and I want to keep my ride looking the best that it can for as long as it can.

We think Barry uses a CoverCraft to cover both his 57 Chevy and his Ford GT

If CoverCraft is good enough to cover a bow tie I guess it OK for a VW, so it's off to http://www.covercraft.com/

Had a covercraft for my Vette for years. Very, Very impressed. Keep a duster with it and give the car a dust off before you put it on.

did a search and found your topic

my car is always garaged overnight but during the day time while at work it's uncovered...i just hate walking to my car after work on a monday and see it covered with dust..after i spent a weekend of TLC

so i was planning to get a cover car that was designed for my vehicle (oem) and take the advice above and carry a duster before i put it on when arriving to work

so that's really the only time it can get dirty is during the commute and it doesn't look that bad at all when i arrive to work...just when i come back at the end of the day

anyone know a place to pick up the cable that straps the hooks down at the rear bumper? thinking of a walmart/target kind of store would be nice

anyone willing to share horror stories about car covers ruining the finish?

about to jump off the fence and buy the oem car cover at a great price

                Re: Car Covers

Well, Covercraft will make it for the exact shape of your vehicle, if that helps any. And I am sure it comes with some kind of tie down.

The only real horror stories are if you use some kind of plastic sheeting, or some real cheapo abrasive cover.

California Car Cover is also a great choice. I have the "Noah" custom fit one for my Camaro and love it.

They also guarantee their covers won't scratch the finish.

The key to any car cover is, when you do put it on, the car's finish is clean of any dust or debris.

I've heard all Kimberly-Clark covers are excellent.
