  • Florida Members? How are you holding out?

Just read about the Tornado on the wire...

    By JIM ELLIS
LADY LAKE, Fla. (AP) - At least 14 people were killed early Friday as severe thunderstorms and at least one tornado struck central Florida, flattening hundreds of homes and a church, causing power outages and lifting a tractor trailer into the air, officials said.

Lake County spokesman Christopher Patton confirmed the 14 deaths to The Associated Press. Eleven deaths were reported in Paisley and three in Lady Lake, he said, both towns in Lake County about 50 miles northwest of Orlando. No further details were available.

Gov. Charlie Crist declared a state of emergency for Volusia, Sumter, Lake and Seminole counties and planned to head to the area to handle his first natural disaster since taking office last month. State emergency manager Craig Fugate estimated that hundreds of homes were destroyed.

I live in the Tampa area and was not affected by the most recent damaging storms.

Yes we have our problems with weather but we rarely get hail, snow or ice so I guess we have some things to be thankful for

I have lived in Texas and seem some serious storms including vary large hail that puts massive dents in cars.

I do not beleive there is a perfect place to live and I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Based on what I have seen on the local news the winds for the storms that hit central florida exceeded 150 mph when the tornado's touched down and did their damage.

It also didn't appear to matter if you were in a mobile home vs a frame or block built home.

There was a church that was built to withstand 150 mph winds and it just blew it totally apart.

So far the death toll is at 20 and hopefully it will not increase. I do not look forward to the insurance companies raising our homeowners insurance rates again due to this latest problem.

Maybe it's time to move to North Dakota and hide in a basement !

        Mike,

Following the Mobile Tech Expo we headed ovr to Lady Lake (just south of Ocala) to where my brother lives.

We spent 4 days there a week and 1/2 before the toranado hit.

Thank God my brother, his family , business and freinds are all OK.

Yeah, 'cause NONE of that ever happens in Texas.

I would say the same, but this past season has sucked. Drought summer, then the rains come, and dont stop. Then it Ices, Snows, and stays cold, now it snowed 3 times in the past week. Granted its nothing significant, but still, snow in Texas?

speaking of weather, is anyone following the flooding in Indonesia?
