  • What was your first car you practiced on?

I started out detailing (well, trying to) at age 13 on my dad's 68 bug. I tried my first rotary buffer at 19 on it and quickly found out how challenging a rounded surface can be to not screw up with that tool!

I progressed to my first truck, a 72 Ford Econoline van. Nothing like the old solid color paints, they could take a beating from buffers and still come out decent/ lol.

I started about six months ago. I'm now planning to become a registered Meguiars detailer. My first detail was my own Ford fiesta mk3.

The first thing I "detailed" (I'm not sure if that's the right word for it; you are about to see why) was my Dad's dark green Plymouth Grand Voyager. I think it was a '97. I was 10 and 11 when I detailed it. I used to climb on top of the roof to clean it (keep in mind I wasn't even 100 pounds then). I would wash it with an old rag and either dish soap or Simple Green, and I don't remember drying it. I'd slap a coat of Turtle Wax on and let my Dad take it off because I put such a thick coat on, I couldn't get it off when it dried (I was just a kid though). We never realized why it was so hard to get the wax off.

I started actually researching about detailing when I got my truck. That's what I've been practicing on with the PC and almost all the Meg's products I buy.

Even though I am only 23 I have been detailing professionally for about 10 years. When I first started out, I worked for one of the largest mobile detailing companies here in Orange County California. (My older sister’s boyfriend’s dads company). The first car I ever had a chance to work on was a Black BMW 740. I quickly learned out challenging detailing really is. This was the first car that I ever really washed or waxed. Hard car to learn on but gained a lot of knowledge that day.

We have always taken care of our cars in my family. I started really "detailing" on my family's 1997 Maroon Mitsubishi Galant with white interior. I then worked on my 1974 Plymouth Duster and it grew to a small business in High School. I cared for my own cars untill I was a Junior in college when a local startup mobile detailing shop a friend owns hired me. I have researched and learned a lot and am now do all of our reasearch and development, much of our advertising, training, product selection and ordering, and some detailing.

Well the First one I remember was a 66 Plymouth Belvidere. I did a pretty good job, (at least I thought so). Then all of a sudden I "had" to do my Grandfathers car. It seems to have never ended since then.
