What is the best temp to apply decals to a car?

  • #2
    Re: Applying decals

Warmer temperatures will make the job easier and the adhesive perform better, probably in the range of 70 degrees as a low and up to the 90's as a high. Actually, can't image warmer temperatures being a problem, so even up to the 100 degree temperature outside realm should not be a problem.
(If it's 100 degrees outside then it's probably in the 90's in your garage)

Just got the decals for my car. Now I just have to wait for the weather to get warmer to put them on.

          Re: Applying decals

I had a friend of mine, make and put on some large decals on my truck this past spring. I helped him do it. We sprayed a "decal liquid" not sure what it was, on were they were going and on the back of the decal. This allows you to put the decal on and slide it around to exactly where you want it. Then squeegee it on and your good to go. Maybe you already knew this. I just thought it worked really slick.

I think that it is nothing more than soapy water. But I do not know the dulition ratio.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

We started with soapy water but it was sticking so he switched to something else that was made for that. No idea what it was. But ya, I'm sure soapy water would work too. My decals were one piece form the front bumper to the door handle, they are huge.

Here are a couple of links to Modern Image. We have used them to make and apply many of our Meguiar's decals. Hopefully this will help ?

                          Re: Applying decals

I would wait until the paint manufacturers cure time is over or a minimum of 30 days, whichever is greater.

As far as applying the decals add 3 or 4 drops of baby shampoo to a spray bottle of water.

I'd be happy to give you pointers on the best way to apply graphics, if you need them.

Well the car got repainted after it was hit by a car door. The body shop said not to wax for 6 week's in the area.

Do you have to use soapy water? Or can it be applied without it.
