  • New White Hemi

I just traded my black 2003 Dodge Hemi for a 2007 white Hemi. (There was a $4000 rebate on the 2007!!). All of my personal vehicles since 1977 have been black. What in the world do I do with my spare time?

Speaking of which -- I actually will not have time to detail it for a couple of weeks (deer season). Should I slap on a quick coat of NXT and call it good enough for now? I purchased the truck from a rural dealer. There is not much in the way of airborne pollutants around here. I'll be able to do the job right in a couple of weeks.

Oh, I still have the two black Harley Davidsons any suggestions for a new signature.

I just have some kinda of oreo in my head.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

If working by hand, clay+ColorX+Nxt would be perfect, ColorX + Nxt would be great, Nxt alone would be good.

All just depends on what you have time for, have available, etc. No right or wrong...

I read on a Dodge forum that Dodge vehicles (including my own) have horrible overspray, dust and what not from the factory and on top of that being put on rails when shipped makes a horrible combination. They recommeded a good claying and then waxing. Metal slivers in white paint cause rust spots in white paint and will look terrible on down the road, better to get them out now. I clayed my Dodge Neon (Orange Blast) then the cleaner wax and then NXT wax. You would not believe what I got out of the claying process (the clay was filthy), the paint was horrible compared to when I was done.

The paint was very rough, after claying and the waxing, smooth as a baby's rump and looks like glass.

My next step is to either use 80 then 83 then 21 over it as I do have some self made swirls I discovered in a couple of places but they are barely noticiable and only in a couple of spots, I still need some practice and the right tools to do so, been using a cheapy buffer but the car looks great still.

Have fun with the new Hemi.

          Yep,

I'll clay the Hemi ASAP. Then follow with #80 and NXT. I may just hit it really fast with ColorX tomorrow morning.

My wife has a white Tacoma 4X4. Maybe I can work that into my signature too.

I did a thorough wash this morning. The finish is as smooth as a baby's behind. I'll apply NXT with a pc and polishing pad and call it good enough for a while.

I thought mine was smooth too, until I ran a clay bar (Meguiars of course) with Megs QD, you would not believe the difference.

With white paint, metal slivers will rust and look like your car is rusting, looks bad.

May want to do it in the near future.

              Just my .02 worth.

              Have fun.

                Nappers,

Thanks for the warning. I'll get out the clay ASAP.

                  Re: New White Hemi

no problemo, I did the same thing you were thinking, I hand waxed my Neon with NXT paste and used MF towels to remove, thought it looked good but then I read about how Dodges come out so rough and thought it couldn't hurt, now my paint is smooth as glass with exception to a couple of areas with very light swirls. Looks so much better and that Orange Blast paint is now nice and deep.

                  have fun with the Hemi.

search this site for hints to making your car better, I am also learning the how to's from the experts here.

This is a little backwards Aaron - you should use 83 before 80, then 21. And you should really only use 83 if you can't correct the defects with 80. Don't forget that "least aggressive" approach!!

I figured I had something backwards. sorry, still learning trying to tie the numbers in so I can do the same.

                      Thanks for the correction.
