car help please

[97t-bird]

Ok well i spent the better part of the day today riding around town going to exhaust shops. I want to redo the exhaust om my 97t-bird w/4.6 nothing nast or super loud just a nice sound. I did some searching aroung a t-bird forum and am confused. I want to remove the 3rd cat (Illegal) but the sensors are in the first 2 the 3rd is acting as a ypipe cause the exhaust goes 2-1-2. I want to put a dual in dual out magnaflow tru x muffler in the cats place with 2 seperate pipes back into soem nice polished tips. I have heard rumors that it will pass bacause they only plug the car in to a computer and the sensors are in the first 2 which are still in place. Does anyone think I will pass with them even looking under car I cant remember if they do or not. If it helps I am in MD any help would be great thanks. Greg

I don't know about Maryland, but in Kaleefornia you'd be asking for real trouble....assuming you wanted to keep driving the car (legally licensed anyway). It might even be against some federal law to tamper with smog control stuff.

You'll be ok w/emissions. The 2 sensors ahead of the last cat control mixture. What a difference w/o that xtra cat,I put pro dumps on my 97 Mustang GT 4.6 from year one & loved it!
