Warning: Don't a compressor that has had paint run through it on your car!!

Well...

My friend called me today in a state of shock and I asked him what was wrong. He was drying his moms car after washing it and decided to use a air compressor to get the majority of the water off. But the compressor had been used to spray paint a fence a couple months ago and now the car is covered in overspray from the paint that was left in the hose!!

I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know the degree of overspray but all I know is that you should never use a compressor that has had paint run through it!!

Anyone one else ever done this??

Hmm.. I have never used one, but shouldnt you avoid getting paint into the compressor itself?

Is he sure that it is not rust colored condensation that collected in the compressor's tank? I have to drain mine once in a while otherwise moisture can collect in it.

There shouldn't be any way that the compressor is sucking paint from the pot back into the hose.

Use a leafblower if you wanna dry faster. But no compressed air. Not even Gust off.

Sorry I didnt reply quicker, I have two new puppies to take care of and havent had the time...anyways, I still havent seen the car yet but I will mention it to him. If it is the condensation, how would he go about removing it? Would it be the same process as if you were removing overspray? Also how would he be able to tell whether it is paint or the condensation?

P.S. he says that he washed it again and about 50% of it came off, but there is still something on it.

Yum, compressor condensate...oil, water, rust. I would guess that would be considered "hard" water, so it may have effected the paint in the same way that water spotting would. He'd better be careful with the washing, as that rust will be abrasive. Some claying might be in order.

That milky water/oil mix is really a mess. I'm sure it's going to take him a few washes to remove it all. Unless he uses some APC diluted, that stuff will take some washes to remove it. That's why, if needed, I use my ShopVac with the air flow reversed to dry the tough areas of my cars. I make sure the ShopVac is cleaned inside really well before I do this. I don't want to blow dust and debris all over my cars.

So... Who was this friend? I remember driving by your house the other day and seeing what i thought was a newly painted fence.
