  • Playing around...

Here is something I cooked up in Photoshop tonight. It is sized as a business card, but looks bigger on here. Took the sticker that I got for free from ADS and scanned it in. Cleaned up the scratches and spots on it and had a little fun with it. What do you think?

What do I think? I think you need permission to use that trademarked logo on your business card.

I wasn't going to use it as a business card. Notice I said I was "playing around" with this, not actually using it. Believe me, I know all about the copyright rules since I'm the in the photography business. I just asked what people thought of the design...that's all!

Aside from the possible trademark issues, the text looks really cheap and non-pro.

Keep in mind that this is your communication to the outside world. Do you want to look cheap? This card somewhat represents the cook that wants to make some extra money and thought of "hmm.. let's detail cars!" - I guess that's not the image you're after.

        I'd keep it clean, simple.

Your company logo, perhaps (with permission!) the logo of meguiars and the text in arial, helvetica. That's it.

But since this was just a play, don't worry

Yeah, the text wasn't the best of choices, but I was just playing around. I'm going to make something new later on, but w/o the logo. I did a card w/ my photo for work. The customers thought we did those for anybody, but I said the cost is too much. I print them out on silver halide photo paper so the picture and text come out really crisp, clean and colorful. If Meguiar's says it okay to use the logo, I will add it for sure. Thanks for suggestions Madsekci on your idea of a card, it looks really nice. Might have to add a photo of my car or a neighbors 69' Mach 1 on the card.

good idea, but ferrari would be very displeased with you using a picture of their 612 on it. good luck on getting ferrari's permission, if thats the case.
same with ford and the mach 1.

the car companies own the designs of their cars. i however believe that if you can prove that you took the picture that gives you some legal standing to use the picture of their car

i understand this was just for playing around, but your example could be actually used as a "good" idea. then you'll get a nice letter from FNA regarding the use of their property and the big trouble you're in.

Well to "calm" the copyright infringement speculations, I spoke with Rick McDonough of Meguiar's today. He said I could use their logo in my cards as long as I have some words after it. "We Only Use LOGO Products." is one example he gave me. I just couldn't put the logo alone on my card b/c somebody might mistaken me as an "employee" of Meguiar's. Rick was very nice about it and even thanked me for using their products and how highly I spoke of them. Here is my newest example of my card.

^^^ I like that! Clear, simple. Not 100% keen on the background colour but thats purely subjective. The card gets the message across though, and in a professional way IMO.
