400HP says I can do an AWD burnout! And while RWD is fun, something about cutting 1.7 second 60' times at the track is addicting!
RWDs can cut amazing 60ft times, you just need wide and sticky tires. The good thing about AWD is that you can make that same 60ft time on the street while the RWD will be spinning tires.
I was driving my first FWD during the winter. I really got a great appreciation for FWD then.
But, when you have an empty, snow-covered parking lot, I and my children like RWD...donuts.

You can have just as much fun with FWD. Turn the steering wheel all the way in one direction, put the car in reverse, and stand on the gas. My Z-24 I had in high school would sit and rotate on its back tires.
I'll be the first to step up and admit that I love my FWD cars. Yes, the torque steer and wheel hop *****, but there's ways to eliminate that, like playing around with the motor mounts. I race my Spec V a ton, and I like how I am not all over the road like most of the RWD cars I've raced with (drag racing for those who are curious). Not to mention that I have always lived in snowy, horrible climates (Wyoming for 22 years) and I loved driving a FWD. And mostly, it's just fun to be apart from the crowd
I'll take a rear driver any day. I don't like torque steer. Granted, I love front drive when there is 8 inches of snow on the ground, but around here that only happens 2 or 3 times a year. I like to do smokey burnouts too.
While you can’t judge a car simply by it’s drive layout, all else being equal I would suggest that rear wheel drive is preferable for superior handling and “go fast fun.”
The physics may be arguable but lets look at some “empirical data”:
Manufacturers’ choices: RWD: Ferrari (all), Lotus (almost all), Porsche (all but the AWD), Jaguar (all but the AWD) , Mercedes (all but the AWD), Maserati (all), Aston Martin (all). FRD: everybody’s econoboxes, most companies’mid range, a few companies’ upper tier cars.
Models within a manufacturer’s range: RWD: Honda NSX, Toyota Supra, Ford GT, Chevy Corvette FRD: Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Ford Taurus, Chevy Malibu
Racing cars, designed from the ground up for speed and nothing but: RWD: Formula 1, Champcar, IRL, Sports Prototypes (Le Mans, etc) FRD: none
Road course lap records: RWD: Nürburgring, Monza, Monaco, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Imola, Zandvoort, Silverstone, Hockenheimring, Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Laguna Seca, Targa Florio, Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans), Spa-Francorchamps, Brands Hatch, etc, etc, etc… FRD: ???
