  • What got you into detailing?

I got into detailing because of my father. He alway's kept my mothers car and his car clean. He would clean the car's on a Saturday morning and he would make sure they where spotless. He alway's told me I should open my own detailing business. So I guess you could say I got addicted because of my father.

I grew up around Hot Rods and rare muscle cars... even motorcycles. My favorite uncle had a few nice cars and his son, my cousin, used to wash his cars once in a while. I still remember one of the first times my uncle making us go faster because the sun was about to land on the car while we were drying it. My other uncle always had pristine condition cars from the 50s and 60s... he always did car shows and did well. Just from growing up around those 2 uncles I learned what it was like to enjoy good looking, and well taken care of cars.

Also.. my Grandfather owned his own shop (mechanic shop) in San Jose CA for more then 40yrs... our family still owns it but my Grandfather has passed recently.

You can pretty much say I can do just about anything to a vehicle. Im both a mechanic and a detailer. Im pretty good at both.

My detailing ability also comes naturally from my father. My dad always took the time to teach me everything he knew about how to properly clean, polish and wax a car. He always had a clean car and he always did all of the work himself. It was only natural for me to follow in his footsteps.

That's exactly my answer too. Just bought a Toyota FJ in black and that car will never see a "car wash". I really enjoy detaling a brand new freshly clayed and protected car. I kept my first car, 1999 White CRV for my "lab rat" so I can practice using my g100, polishes, and various pads to get learning curve down before my first polish on the FJ

I caught the detailing bug after I got my 1st black car and stumbling into MOL. More so especially after attending a Detail Session with my local detailer over here and also from all the Show Off Threads I followed here.

              Thanks Meguair's!

Well it all started when i was really young.A good friend of mine that live a couple of houses away , his older brothers all had really nice cars. They would be outside washing and waxing their cars alll the time.So me and my friend would watch and after a while we were helping them out.Thats back in the day when rain dance wax was considered one of the best..Then as i got older i went to vo-tech for autobody. After i graduated H.S. I started working at car dealerships and was prepping cars for paint and detailing when they were done..I did that for about 5 yrs and then one day a friend of mine talked me into becoming a casino dealer...14yrs later iam still working nights at the casino and running a mobile detailing business during the day.It all started with my love for making cars clean and shiny ,and still to this day I feel the same way.

Girl troubles in high school. I had a dark blue car and found that cleaning it relaxed me. I was the envy of all my neighbors(to this day) and they wanted their cars "waxed" as well. So I waxed em!

X2. Except I started to detail because I wanted my car to look nice for the ladies. Now Its a small buisness I run on the side.

A black chevrolet truck + high-school meant it needed to look as good as I could get it.

Working 80 hours a week and not being able to find any car detailers that would touch my bike ment I had to learn to do it myself....then my friends bikes...and now no work and lots of detailing other peoples bikes....

Now I get paid to ride their bikes to my work...detail them and ride them back to them...couldn't get much better....except maybe find a millionair that would let me detail his bikes for 1K a pop once a week.

The wife got a new HHR. We have decided that we will keep it in good condition. That said, I ended up at the Meguiars web site.

A few trips to various stores in the area. Visited other web sites. Now I have a bunch of Megs supplies.

Testing everything on my 2000 S-10. I don't think the wife would be happy if I tried something on the HHR and screwed it up.

                          So far so good.

For some reason ever since I was little I always felt & figured that if your ride was clean it would also ride & drive better. Having a clean ride always made me feel good. Detailing cars is definitely a relaxing time for me now. It's a chance for me to get away & at the end see the results I have created which always makes me feel better. Seeing the client just as excited is priceless for me as well. The reason I keep saying ride is because I always did the same thing with my bikes as a young boy, I mean young. I found this pic of me at 2 years old. I couldn't stop laughing.
