  • Cheapo Wal-Mart.....

Yestuday I went into a local Wal-Mart to pick up some things and I stopped by the car section. I have already gotten one of those Ultimate Enthusiast car care kits adn was looking into another. Well I didnt see any, but it turns out that Wal-Mart knows about how much they can get off the products inside the Kit. I took it that Wal-Mart had a lot of left over kits and what they did was they took all the stuff out and sold it as off the truck products. The brushes were selling for $20 and so on. I was ticked, so i went out of state to VA adn picked up another kit there for $15.

Also the detailing brush was "placed" in the painting section at Wally World. Lets just say I gave a little laugh about this. But all this ticked me off.

Just thought I would share a Wal-Mart Blunder.

Slightly offtopic, I recently went into walmart and got 1 can of NXT tire shine, and they charged me for 2 cans So I had to go back so they could refund my C.C. what a waste of time.

I hate Wal*Mart as much as I love my wife.

The image they portray in their ads and the actual stores and people working in them are like night and day.

The "charging for two" scam is an old WallyWorld trick.

Supposedly, the UPC code doesn't "scan properly", so they put it through again. Most people are so busy unnloading their carts to put on the conveyor, they don't notice the overcharge. It's always something that is relatively inexpensive, like under $5.99

One item or two overrings, during the day, multiplied by the thousands of Wal*Marts and the customers who do not notice = big profits for the Walton family.

Not really walmarts fault but... I was purchasing some apples(sold by weight) and the employee weighted the apples and also their hand, I was shocked to see something like $8 in for 5 Apples... I asked how much they were a pound and the asked the to be re-weighed ended up at less than half the price. Keep your eye on the weights at any store.

I was trying to find a Microfiber at wal-mart but I can't find them anywhere now. The only ones that I see are the cheap off brand cloths. Did the cut some of their Meg's line? I went to one in NY, Baltimore, and here at home and none have one? Am I just missing something here?

The Super Wal-Mart here never had Microfiber Megs cloths, they only had off brand. So I dunno..... but they are being cheap by taking all those products out of those kits adn resaling them.

Wal marts around here carry very few Meg products. Nothing in the NXT line for starters...

I buy my DC soap there since it's 2$ cheaper than Canadian Tire.

The Walmart I go to has a pretty good selection of the meg waxes and tire/wheel stuff. No polishes other than Scratch-X though so I have to go to an Auto specialty store that overcharges. At least when they don`t know what they have they toss NXT spray wax into the clearance bin for 50 cents. They`re below list price on most of what they have.

Here are some interesting observations about Wal-Mart.

I'm really concerned about how this company is causing good paying jobs to leave America. Not only here, but in other countries as well.

Have to take issue with that article in that the author claims that "They (Walmart) pay their people a poverty-level wage." and that is factually false.
For 2006 the poverty level as determined by the Federal government is $13,200 for a family of two. The starting wage at Walmart is $15,080. In fact in our area, WalMart pays a higher starting wage than Best Buy or Sears.

Also the described interaction between the buyers and vendors ...well in case anyone didn't know, that same practice takes place in nearly every industry. Once you grasp the fact that we have a "Global Economy" you can begin to see the big picture. We here in the US have been making a lot of money in the past for basically non-skilled or low-skilled work. Now, we are competing with people all over the world where labor is cheap. That is not going to change. This will exist whether or not there is a WalMart. As a CEO your goals are to improve production and lower costs. You want to maximize profits. If you fail at those goals your company will fail. When your company fails no one will be drawing a paycheck.

Facts are, when a WalMart opens a store and needs about 300 employees they get about 15,000 applicants. It's called a free market system. Good and bad it is still a free market system. If a business was not paying enough to attract employees they would need to raise the wages and benefits. Clearly that is not in evidence.

Not trying to defend WalMart as I don't shop there but facts are facts. I am in favor of a free market.

I would love to see Wal-Mart unionized. I just recently talked to 17 year veteran of the company, and they told me that turnover is high in their stores.

With a markup of 70 to 80% on their stuff coming out of China, they could afford to pay their help more and have better benefits too.
