  • Anyone have a 'smartphone' (Windows Mobile)?

Just that anyone have a 'smartphone' powered by Windows Mobile? In my case I just got a Nextel I920 and/or I930, I have been trying both out basically the same phone but I have had the opportunity to use both and went for the I920.

I didn't really want the extra size of the Blackberry so I went for the I930/I920. So..... My question is are there any good forums out there with info on the phones and the operating system? software, theme generators info and so on. Really like the phone and what it does I just want to take full advantage of it.

see a PM.. dont want to post a bunch of links as its a no-no per the rules of this forum..

I have Nextel as well but the I870 phone. I was looking into getting the I920/930 but due to size I wanted something alittle smaller. the iDEN phones have always been big, but with the memory card reader in there now they are big again.

Rumor has it, Our nextel rep for govt accounts told us that Motorola is working on a dual/tri-band mode phone which is possibly going to be released in the Fall.. If you lose signal on the Nextel side (IDEN Network) for voice calls your phone will beable to use Sprints (CDMA Network) That would be nice since!!

So far I am very happy with the 920/930, does what I want, I use most of Outlooks features so the phone and outlook work hand in hand. Several years ago I had a Sprint phone that synced with Outlook very primitive but it worked, once that phone was discontinued I ordered a second off ebay as a back up and I really missed them once they both died.

As for the size of the 920/930, I agree they are big but I was looking a little at a Blackberry and thought for what I wanted the size isn't all that bad. I like the SD card idea but as of yet I don't have a need for the card slot. To me it, seems many cell phones are no going to the larger size again mainly for the screens.

dual/tri-mode might be a handy deal, do you think they(nextel) is going be moving more towards the sprint network, kind of a transition?

We have 15 phones on the company account and we deal with the enterprise dept. which is the government sales dept. So If we do phone upgrades or anything like that, I contact our national sales rep. From talking to him the full transition will not be done until 2010. Sprint and Nextel operate on different systems, Nextel is iDEN and Sprint is a CDMA network. They both have the walkie-talkie, but Nextels is much better then sprint. Sprints will only work in the digital PCS coverage areas that sprint offers. Nextel will work nation-wide so when you got signal you got nation wide direct connect. Then Sprint has the better voice side of the network, where Nextel is good, but some areas could be alot better. He was saying that he heard from system developers that they are looking into either having dual/tri-band phones that will work with both networks, so if you lose nextel coverage you can use sprints network and sprint has contracts with other cell carriers to use there towers like roaming, but you dont pay roaming charges, then he said he just heard last week they may use Nextels Direct Connect with Sprints voice network. Which will be the best of both worlds in my opinion. My girlfriend has sprint and her coverage is great, alot better then my Nextel.
Also the intenet on the sprint side is much better then Nextels.

He did say that Motorola is the only manufacture of the iDEN phones and they are working on a phone that is supose to be compatible with iDEN and CDMA. I sure hope they come out with phone equal to the i870. Those are the phones we have I like them. Those might be ready by August or late fall. Either way for Spint Nextel I think its a good thing they merged and if they merge services we will get the best of both worlds.

I like Nextel because of the features on the phones. They make nice phones and loaded with everything I need/want in a phone. Direct Connect and Text Messaging are nice when you want to tell someone something quick instead of calling them and having them talk to you forever!
