  • Odd comments received while detailing!

I'm sure you've all heard the simple ones like:

-Didn't you just wash your truck (Insert: yesterday, two days ago, last week)?

    to the more complex:

-Why do you keep spraying your car and wiping it off with that tiny sponge? I just use a hose and a towel! ( Reffering to clay and QD)

-How many coats are you going to use? Haven't you already done it twice now?

-I just use ( insert wax name) wax, you only need to put it on once.

    ----

Now it's your turn... toss in your favorite quote or story that you've received while detailing a car!

This is true of ANY wax. I still don't understand while people insist on "layering". An additional applications only ensure even coverage, beyond that, there is no point.

No, it's just that the person in this quote saw me use ScratchX in a couple spots to remove some stuff, then saw me use DC#1 & #2. He walked up and asked why I was working so hard, and that "his" wax only needed to go on once. He probably just saw the DC bottles being the same looking - and didnt notice the labels.

I explained to him what I was doing, and he just walked away.

        From the same guy:

"Keep that up and you'll rub the paint right off"

"There you go, rubbing the paint off again"

Other neighbors walking by at the right time:

        "You're cleaning your engine??!?!?"
"No wonder your cars always look so good!" (well, duh!)
"Washing the car, huh?" (no, I'm counting the teeny tiny particles in the metallic finish - here's your sign)

          How about:

"I'll bring my car over next !"

Followed by me saying "OK!...bring your checkbook too!"

"You missed a spot (points to her car)"
                "Isn't it gonna rain tomorrow"
"I didn't know you can use paint on tires to get it black. That's such a good idea! (using High Gloss Endurance with a paint brush)"

                "What's the machine for?"
"I'm removing swirls (point to the black paint)"
"Wow, that's crazy. Aren't you proud, my car doesn't have any (points to her white car)"

                  I love it!

A resident of the neighborhood once told me "I think you are addicted to cleaning your cars..."

To which I answered... "yes, it's like smoking crack!"

I should note that this neighbor's car is just a empty Pepsi can short of being classified as a motorized dumpster and hasn't seen a wash or wax since he purchased it two years ago!

I could go on for hours like most of you could but some of my past favorites.

                      "Didn't you just wash it?"

                      "It's Snowing! Are you nuts?"

"It's just going to get dirty again..."

"You'll wash the paint right off."

"I use X on my car, it's made for X I've never waxed it since I've applied it in XXXX."

                      Ok thats good enough....

I dont know why, but I think comments like "Arent you going to wash the paint off" annoy me a heck of a lot more than "I use xxx product once every five years" type comments.

One would think it would be the other way around...

This thread really made me laugh.

I've had some STRANGE comments like:

"Oh I hope you're getting paid for that" (yea right, like who's gonna pay me to wash MY car?)

                          'What are you doing"
                          - "Waxing my car"
                          "Why?"
                          - "So it looks good"
                          "But it looks good already?"
-"I know - I just waxed it!!!" *doh*

but the best was my girlfriend. I bought Hot Shine tyre spray and used it. That afternoon, she asked me if I got new tires. *shakes head* women...
