  • Sad, very sad indeed

DIY Network showed an episode of the queen of clean recently.

It was about cleaning cars. I turned it off after about 10-15 minutes.

Here is a small sample of what she said.

''When you are washing the car, start at the top and wet it down first. Use warm water to keep cracks from forming in the finish.

If you use dishwashing liquid to wash the car, use it sparingly. Dishwashing liquid works as well as car washing liquid when you have a good coat of wax on the car. If you do have a good coat of wax on the car, the water will bead up. If not, it is time for a new coat of wax.

Use a natural sponge to wash the car and use a circular motion.

Rinse the car thoroughly, making sure you remove all the soap. After rinsing the car, dry it with old towels. Finish the car off with a good chamois. Either drag it across the surface of the car (figure C) or use a circular motion to give it a great shine. ''

And here I've been wasting my time polishing and waxing when all I needed to do was dry with a chamois, using a circular motion of course, to get a great shine.

Boy, is I a big ol' dummy er whut??

Someone should email them and tell them the error of their ways. If they had any sense at all, they'd air a retraction before it was too late!

Thats like my dad. He saw dirt marks embedded in and scratches and i was like you have to get them out before you wax. He's like oh the wax will remove them don't worry. I just looked up and said oook . He used some xcalibur cleaner/wax and my even coat applicator turned black on just his one panel Some people just never listen. I showed him under his door handle where dirt was embedded in,what scratchx could do. All the dirt just disappeared.

I really like the part of using warm water so that the finish doesn't crack. I'm wondering how many people she's seen use cold water and have the paint crack? I mean, wouldn't driving in the rain on a cold day do the same thing?

I do use warm water when I wash, just because usually it's chilly here in the Northwest, and I don't like having freezing hands while washing the car . . . . . now I know that I am also avoiding having my paint crack! Who knew? But, maybe I should be concerned with all that cold rinse water coming from the hose?

So what would sitting in a driveway covered with snow do to a car's paint? Would it shatter?
