  • Clear-coat on a grill?

My mom's boyfriend's grill was looking very bad the other day and I was just sitting around so I decided I would shape it up a little with Meguiars. I used DC #1 and Scratch-X and the rag didn't turn black. Needless to say, I was surprised. Is it a different paint type because it needs to be heat resistant, or is it just clear-coated. It is a fairly expensive grill for a charcoal grill. Also, I didn't want to wax it because I wasn't sure if Meg's wax could handle the heat. Would it be ok to wax it or should I just leave it alone. It looks a lot better, I just wish I hadn't ran out of clay. Oh well, I guess I just have too much time on my hands now that I'm out of work for a few weeks. School just isn't enough.

They use a special kind of paint on grills--I doubt that it is clearcoated.

Might be ok to wax a charcoal grill, since they don't tend to get as hot as gas grills.

Are you really using these products to clean a BBQ grill? Like where you cook the food?

Just my two cents: I don't think that's a good idea.

They are just being used on the exterior surfaces I am sure.

Oh, I guess that makes sense. Silly me.

Yea, only the exterior. I don't know what is in the Meg's products, but I doubt that I want to eat it. I did wax it, and it looks a lot nicer, too bad that I'm going to use it and get it dirty again. Oh well, gives me something to use my Meg's on.

my parents have a charcoal grill that is as old as me - 21... and still going strong.

Wheels broke off years ago, I broke a leg off a couple weeks ago trying to move it. All the handles are broke off but the lid's. It "should" have blown away in so many storms. It's ended up in a neighbor's backyard....... two houses down. They just can't get rid of the damned thing.

Maybe i'll polish it up, make it a little more areo-dynamic for the next big thunderstorm.

Bow down to the grill that won't just die.

According to the manual that came with my Weber gas grill, it says not to wax the exterior. Just wash it and leave it be.

Oh well. I guess it's a little too late now. I looked, its a weber too. It seems to be holding up though, I just cooked on it again today.
