While I don't agree with their car wax results, I have always gotten a lot of good advice from CR. I always consult it, if I am going to make a major purchase, or need to see the dependability ratings of used cars.

You hit the nail on the head.
CR comes up periodically in several of the forums in which I participate, and the negativity usually comes down to, "I lost faith in CR when they didn't support what I believe."
CR should be one of SEVERAL sources when researching a product. They may not always test all scenarios (who really can) but the bottom line is they probably do more research than we do. The question that should be asked here is, no matter what their testing environment was, why would they get the results they did?
It sure makes me want to do my own test rather than just discount their results.
And as good customer and user of the Meguiars products that they mentioned, I wouldn't mind getting an "official" response to their findings.
Originally posted by scarface_ Isn't the Nu finish that "once" a year wax? Does that actually work? lol. If it did i would think everyone would just buy that.
I don't want to start a rebellion here - like I said, I've been using Meguiars products for years. I've been to several of their detailing clinics and have the greatest respect for Mike and the other staff.
Let's talk "theoretically".
Forget that "once a year" claim. Considering that most of us wax our cars more frequently than that, let me pose a question: What if you used Nu Finish MORE than once a year (as often as you currently wax) and it proved superior to the Meguiars products you had been using. Would you switch? If the answer is "yes" would you be willing to test it?
Well I do consult CR for some items but I've found that some of their findings are quite subjective. Also, I think one of the problems they have is being jack of all trades but master of none, meaning they really aren't experts on many of the products they review. Still, I read user reviews on amazon.com and read message boards for opinions, etc., and CR overall is at least as reliable as the average user review. It's just another opinion to consider.
you really have to look at many differnt sources for good info.
I just bought a Dyson DC14! even though consumer reports said it was "very good overall, but neither as good nor as low-priced as plenty of other vacuum cleaners we tested." I have tried 2 of the other vacuums in the test but none were as good as the dyson.

They tested cleaner waxes, but they didnt test Color X. They didnt test any Mothers products. They tested P21s which is not a cleaner wax. How could it shine on durty paint. The Turtle carnuba may be ok, but the Black Magic, my God . I would think that Nufinish would work ok on bad paint. People that read detailing forums are a different breed of people, they dont want a clean car they want a outstanding looking car. They also said that new cars cant be made to look better, ha they dont drink the same stuff that I drink.
I agree with you guys. I like a lot of people, never paid any real attention to what CR reports. It's funny that the "Big Name" readliy available at any chain store or supermarket products were the highist rated. That realy eritates me. I have not yet seen the article, propably never will since I haven't picked an issue in about 8 -10 years. NU -Finish. Ha Ha. Does anyone actually use that stuff? Isn't that the product and they used to advertise at an "Auto grave Yard" and they would "Bring back the car finish to life" with one quick application? I hate to put down other products even thought I've never use anything but Meguiar's since I was a kid but that just bothered me. Oh well, at least we all know what's the best. Spead the word like I do, Meguiar's is the best!
I NEVER read this magazine. They must have not metioned the website and RX Hotline to back you up with advise. Everyone here knows proper technique makes the difference, and these two features WILL get you there.
