  • So the Cobra is gone

    Wow, what a weekend...

    Sat night:
On a whim, I list my 03 Cobra on craigslist, just to see what the interest is like. The wife and I have been discussing selling it for a while now, because our Honda is almost dead, and having a 16mpg, premium fuel only car as our only vehicle, and one that she can't drive (stick shift) didn't make sense, especially with gas possibly looking at $4/gal soon.

    Sun morning:
I get an email from a frantic buyer wanting to come look at it ASAP. He shows up 30 min later, takes one look at it, and says he wants it. Leaves a $500 deposit.

    Mon morning:
He shows up with more cash, and a cashier's check. We drive to the bank it's drawn on and I check to make sure it's not forged, and it isn't. We do up the paperwork, and the car's gone, just like that.

I think the replacement car will be a Mini cooper, but I'm trying to decide between the S and the regular.

I'm looking forward to detailing my new car, but I'd also like to thank Meguiars and everyone here for helping me keep my Cobra looking so amazing. I'm 100% positive it helped with the resale.

its all perference and money with the MINI COOPER.

i've got a 2006 MINI COOPER S Checkmate Edition with JCW package. (delievery date soon)

i've driven a MINI COOPER and A MINIC OOPER S.

they both got a lot of power. 115hp and 168 respectively. with the JCW its jump to 208-210hp depending where you live.

they are also premimum gas though. just to let you know. but only cost about $38-40 to fill (in Canada. .98 - $1 and change per litre).

check it out. they're a lot of fun and a classy yet very sporty car.

Mini's are cool.....but you are going to miss that V8 horsepower.

yes that is true, MINIs are cool but he'll miss his V8 horsepower.

but still in a MINI, V4, 1.6, 210bhp isn't bad for a car that is extremely light.

but still it must be sad to get hold of a beauty.

              Thanks for the well wishes.

I sold it for $25k (kbb value), and I got to keep the Saleen wheels (to be sold seperately).

But I understand... Same boat here with the Lightning with gas prices. I have entertained the idea of selling the L but don't thing I will ever be able to give it up, just too much fun. I just have to suffer 2 more years of payments + high gas prices then pick up a smaller vehicle for daily driving.

I've never been in a mini before so i can't say if its fun or not but 210HP out of a weightless car, looks pretty fun on paper! I think I may buy a new Mustang GT but I am worried about the gas

The factory "S" model has something like 164 hp, and I test-drove one with a 6-sp manual. It was VERY spritely, especially given there was three people in it (and I'm used to driving the 413hp Cobra).

Handling was amazing. I nailled a 60 degree turn in 2nd gear (I had a green arrow ) and the salesperson went toes over arse in the back seat. The thing is glued to the road.

I think I'll be very happy with it, and the 10mpg improvement over the Cobra won't hurt either.

i agree..its very fun..the only thing that i dont like is that its a fwd...its alot of fun but if they made it in rwd it would be in my garage..they were talking bout an awd system that is mechanical and is rwd and switches to awd when u need it

Ahh, well we agree on that. I've never been a fan of fwd, and this will be the first fwd (and the first import) car I've ever owned. I hope I don't wrap it around a pole.

In the Cobra, I was "surprised" by two unforcasted snowstorms, and neither time was a picnic. That's one thing I'll enjoy not worrying about.

But an awd Mini would be a MONSTER! Let's hope they make one (and don't price it out of reach).
