  • 2005 Ford GT Comparison (Car & Driver)

Just saw this on Car & Driver the other day. Normally I don't really like C&D but, it appears to be the first comparison out there involving the '05 Ford GT and I found it exciting anyway.

"It wasn't even a contest. The Ford GT so completely dusted off its two highly recognized competitors that if we had wanted to make this a real challenge, we would have had to go way up the "supercar" price ladder. The $401,000 Saleen S7 is about as quick as the Ford GT, and we know of only one car that would surely outrun the Ford—the $659,000 Ferrari Enzo."

There was also a good show on Speed (Autorotica) about the design and building of the '05 GT. Ohh if only I had an old rich uncle somewhere or if I could only win the lottery

There was a quote on Autorotica regarding the '05 GT that I really liked. "This is one of those cars that would make you do bad things to get hold of one".

Pretty nice writeup, but it looks like the chose the cars to favor the GT. If the GT is $150K why did they choose the gt3 ( a little over $100K ) instead of the Turbo, it would have been much more fair of a comparison price wise.

I think the GT is Bad A** but they didnt pick a fair bunch of cars. As far as straight performance goes they should have also had the viper and the new vette or the Z06 in there. They probably didnt do the viper and the Z06 because dollar for dollar it would have been too close since you can buy almost 3 vette's for the price of the GT and 2 vipers. The 996 turbo would have priced out close to the same as the GT and the Turbo is a little more intence than the GT3.

Actually they probably picked cars they could actually get hold of. You are right though in that they didn't really evenly match the cars. What is impressive though is they are saying that not only did it out-power both cars it also out-handled both cars. Look at the slalom times (lane change test as C&D puts it ). The Turbo isn't going to help in the handling department. Its just nice to see a car come from an American auto manufacturer that can give the Porsches and the Ferraris a good run for their money.

All I have to do is win the lottery or rob a bank to buy one

Obviously Ford's answer to a SuperCar. I don't want to hi-jack this thread but along the lines of a Ford powered super car has anyone seen the British built Twin Turbo Ford Powered Noble? This also looks like an awsome car at about half the price of the GT. The Noble uses a 3.0 liter Twin Garrett Turbo engine. 365 H.P. 380 ft/lbs of tourqe and weighs in at about 2200 pounds. It has a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds and a top end over 175 m.p.h. I got a packet in the mail the other day that had lots of literature and a video on this car. It's sold assembled, painted minus engine and 6 speed transaxle for about 58 K. They ship it to you out of South Africa. The engine, transaxle and US emmisions put it in the 75 K range. I found it pretty interesting.

Here's a link if anyone is interested.
